Dram of the Day

I am a huge fan of toasted barrel finishes in general. The Michter's TB bourbon is up there as one of my favorite drams of all time and the Elijah Craig TB is just about the best 'gettable' sub $100 whiskey out there ... and even the Basil Hayden Toast is fantastic value and I suspect it will start creeping up in price.

All that said, until today I have never drank a toasted barrel rye. Michter's is the only one I know of and it's super hard to get. I had been holding back on my bottle but decided to crack it open today. What a revelation! One of the best whiskeys I've ever drank. So good it might actually be worth what it is trading for. If you have a chance to grab a bottle do yourself a favor and don't pass it up.

In my official record book both Michter's TBs are superior to both Michter's 10yr, the bourbon is close, the TB rye is magnitudes better.

@soulsea.....got me thinking about toasted bourbons! My place was out of Basil Haydens Toast and the Michters you recommended, but I was able to find this fine Barrel Strength Toasted example from Penelope! So good! I will definitely be on the lookout for our chairpersons recommended drams, but happy I procured this one! Apple pie moonshine in the background for friends! Cheers all!

You guys said I should try these. You guys are awesome. The Balvenie 21 is fantastic but the Aberlour a level above. I need to find more of that. I have these at my office. Boy I will be missing the Aberlour when I get home tonight.

I was recently running the outlaw trails of West Virginia and stumbled upon this.

Have you tried any of the peaty ones yet?

Anything from Lagavulin, Ardbeg and Laphroaig are peat and smoke kings! I was recently gifted a little 200ml bottle of Ardbeg Wee Beastie and its really great. This thread is great to browse if you like sampling new drams. Awesome group to post with!

Boy you really twist a mans arm, don't you! I had been watching the clock, and the Aberlour.... Okay I will be more brave.

Just opened this Aultmore Foggy Moss. Evidently foggy moss tastes really good. This one is very nice on the nose. The taste is mild and smooth but with a definite flavor of something different. The aftertaste is excellent, almost sweet and rich. Leaves you feeling warm but with zero harshness.

Glad you were so persuasive. Can't believe I have been drinking the wrong scotch for so many years. This is another winner!

Damn it's good to be brave LOL. Tomorrow I will try the Ardbeg. Thursday the fancy bottle of Lagavulin, distilled 1998, bottled 2014.

Noted. I had assumed foggy moss was peat. Sorry, total ignorance here. Tomorrow there will be peat!

I have enjoyed some great posts in this thread over the last two years. Nothing I was educated enough to reply to, but thoroughly enjoyed all the same. Soulsea's Blantons smackdown and the epic counter attack by Jackson come to mind.

A nip of the Buckie Road! I enjoy a dram of Aultmore 12 as well. I recommend trying Aberlour A'Bunadh too.
Fantastic. I actually ordered that last night after falling in love with the Aberlour. 61.5%, can it actually go down easy?

Shipping from England so should be here in January. 2022 is already looking up!
