Going with one of my Favorites... it’s like drinking the earth and the sea.... been drinking this since the late eighties. Used to pay 29 to 37 $ ……… today it was 119. Still well worth it to me. Cheers.

I must say, yesterday I had my expectations too high with the Bardstown Discovery #4. It is powerfully sweet which is fine if that's what you're in the mood for. I've been sampling more whiskies with a lower corn percentage in the mash bill and that surely altered my expectations last night. Having said that, tonight I knew what I was getting into and I expected the sweetness and was ready for it. I would love to say that the bottle really opened up over the last 24 hours. In fact, I'd almost swear the bottle REALLY opened up over the last 24 hours. Now I taste the candied fruit, the oak, the vanilla and caramel on the long, complex finish. It doesn't seem as overpowering with the sweetness and is really showing it's complexity.

I was a little disappointed at the power of the alcohol last night (I think it's 57% ABV) but tonight I'd tell you it's very balanced and more smooth. The sad fact is that I'm becoming more jaded as I reach for these better bottles and if they don't deliver something spectacular, I feel like I could have done better at a lesser price.

Tonight I would tell you that the Bardstown #4 is spectacular. The finish is so complex that I'm having trouble identifying everything that's going on. What I can say is that I like it. I like it a lot. ;)

We are celebrating an old friendship this weekend not far from Camp Caliche in Brown County. When I went by the store I found myself grabbing for the Angel's Envy Finished Rye, AGAIN. I think I'm hooked.

Have a wonderful weekend gents.
