Cool. I lean heavily to charred barrel finished stuff. Preference to port and sherry cask but oak can be good. Is it in a clear bottle? So first I'll say that Old Soul 13 is super delicious, I highly recommend it if you run into a bottle.
Second, this came in today (1 of 3000 bottles):

Rye is very difficult to age that long, there's actually very few ryes that have ever been made that are 20yrs or older. Part of the reason is that after a while it will absorb too much oak flavor from the barrel (unless aged in a very cold environment to slow down absorption), the other reason is that if not perfectly distilled, it will often result in an ethanol type taste profile which you obviously don't want and that only intensifies with aging. I haven't opened it yet but I'm eager to see how this one turned out.
Was wondering if it was really that dark. That 38yr scotch ai mentioned was literally blackIt's in a blacked out bottle ... iirc all LS&B bottlings are.

The snow has left long enough to grill a couple of strip steaks.
interesting enough, I can find the rye pretty often, which is very smooth and polished. The bourbon on the other hand is much more difficult. I have to say that I really appreciate all the posts. I have been on a bit of a online buying binge, buying bourbons I never would have known of if it wasn't for @soulsea , Mezcal from @Caliche and Tequila from @Jackson. Its also interesting to see what is hard to get in one part of the country is readily available in another. I can buy Widow jane, Blantons, Black Maple hill all day long, but can't find a bottle of eagle rare, smokewagon or bardstown within 150 miles.Never seen that.... how the hell did you find that in ME? Cheers.
