Dram of the Day

I’ll drink to Ralph! May he Rest In Peace/Pieces..... found the culprit recently...... Bobcat..... lunching not only on Ralph, but ended up eating six other layers.... no I did not kill the Bobcat, he was just doing what Bobcats do....... and no worries the others are producing prolifically, harvested 36 eggs yesterday... Cheers, To Ralph the best Cockadoodledooer ever.😍

Ha! At least your credit cards aren’t laying about like yesterday. I ordered some cool stuff for you ;)

Haha! They're closed! Lol.....were meant for the burn barrel! My place is a bit of a mess! 75% done with a whole house renovation. My gf hounds me about it.....but I'm still living the bachelor life! She's only here on the weekends....

I must say, yesterday I had my expectations too high with the Bardstown Discovery #4. It is powerfully sweet which is fine if that's what you're in the mood for. I've been sampling more whiskies with a lower corn percentage in the mash bill and that surely altered my expectations last night. Having said that, tonight I knew what I was getting into and I expected the sweetness and was ready for it. I would love to say that the bottle really opened up over the last 24 hours. In fact, I'd almost swear the bottle REALLY opened up over the last 24 hours. Now I taste the candied fruit, the oak, the vanilla and caramel on the long, complex finish. It doesn't seem as overpowering with the sweetness and is really showing it's complexity.

I was a little disappointed at the power of the alcohol last night (I think it's 57% ABV) but tonight I'd tell you it's very balanced and more smooth. The sad fact is that I'm becoming more jaded as I reach for these better bottles and if they don't deliver something spectacular, I feel like I could have done better at a lesser price.

Tonight I would tell you that the Bardstown #4 is spectacular. The finish is so complex that I'm having trouble identifying everything that's going on. What I can say is that I like it. I like it a lot. ;)

We are celebrating an old friendship this weekend not far from Camp Caliche in Brown County. When I went by the store I found myself grabbing for the Angel's Envy Finished Rye, AGAIN. I think I'm hooked.

Have a wonderful weekend gents.

J
I find anything over 50-55% needs a bit of water. Otherwise the alcohol masks too much

Very cool, I believe we were at 10K when I did my tandem job. Good way to kickstart your heart!!🤺

No way I’m jumping out of a plane that’s still flying but I’ll toast to your juevos in the most non-gay way there is. 🍻

Never had this.... it’s very good.... I like the high alcohol content, it seems very well balanced. Cheers.

I was at the local liquor store yesterday and checked some bourbon prices. Here at the top shelf was this:

says Confiscated??

Yup it’s a standard KO release that started a couple of years ago. It’s their ‘entry level’ bourbon.

It’s good but overpriced even at $125 msrp imo, and it’s often marked up at liquor stores.

Now the KO yearly bourbon batch releases are exceptional and fully worth their high price, but Confiscated would have to be $75 max to be worth it.

I have a bit of news that will surprise all of you! As it turns out, Brother Soulsea knows what he's talking about. I know, it's shocking, but he does. Remember a few months ago when he recommended some $30 bottle of swill and called it a hidden gem or some other term of affection? As I saw it on the shelf and abruptly turned my nose up at it, I was poked in the eye by an overhead sign which caused me to be disoriented and I mistakenly grabbed the wrong bottle. When I got home, I saw said bottle in the bag and began cursing and checking online for the return policy. Before I knew what happened, my wife had it open and was telling me how good it was.

To my surprise, they were both correct. This is one delicious little bottle that I will now refer to as my daily drinker.

A tip of the cap to you Brother Soulsea, the captain of this ship. You know your stuff! ;) 🥃

Ha thanks man, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

After a year or so in the cabinet I finally decided to crack this guy open.

I have to say I've never been so confused by a bourbon, I can't figure out if I actually like it a little or a lot, if it's worth the price, or if it's me that's missing something. I think there's some wonder hidden in it, but it's also a couple of proof too high for palate so it gets lost in the burn. The first taste is a little too harsh then it settles into something really nice, then it fades away quickly into an unfamiliar aftertaste. It might actually be a little too complicated for me to appreciate. It's really rare that a first impression isn't a lasting one with me when I taste a new whiskey but this one is going to take the full bottle for me to come to terms with. I have a feeling that very knowledgable bourbon fans might love it and consider it a hidden gem even at around $200 going rate ... but it's shaken my confidence. :)
