Dram of the Day

I love those weekends! Many bottles would be opened and hopefully the trucks would remain parked. ;)

Breckenridge Bourbon is a new one to me so tell us what you think.

Widow Jane is some good stuff! I've got a little something special for tonight as well.

Copenhagen "used to" have a 30 year love affair with Copenhagen? :ROFLMAO: Love it!
I’ll break into the Breckinridge tonight. I’ll let you know my thoughts. @soulsea had a rec on the single barrel. Excited to try.

These just arrived, thank you for the recommendations @Caliche looking forward to trying them out later on tonight.

Try that illegal one first, but then again the others might not taste as good. Cheers my friend. Enjoy.

Well lookie here ... how you like the old potrero?
I need some more time with it.... was just doing a quick tasting. Ended up with the Rabbit Rye for the evening festivities. Now that was absolutely delicious. Cheers

This is a safe place Caliche and you can be honest with our Supreme Leader. “I need more time with it” can mean that you need more time with it or that it’s harsh in any number of ways. Whatever you do, don’t add water to it to make it more palatable. He gets PISSED. :ROFLMAO:

Yes, I’ve been day drinking.

Our fearless leader is somewhat correct except that our taste buds and olfactory receptors are the most accurate when the whiskey is below 40%ABV. More than 40% and the alcohol can block some of the more subtle flavors and aromas. Your first time or two experiencing a whiskey, add some water to get it down below 40%. The famous Master Distiller from The Dalmore, Sir Richard Patterson, would argue that it should be closer to 30% to grasp more of the subtleties of the spirit but it comes down to personal preference. Then, once you know what you're getting into, most of us prefer the ABV it is in the bottle even though some of those older whiskeys can be really high in alcohol content as the water moves out of the barrel over the years and concentrates the contents into a higher proof, more complex whiskey. You'll be hard pressed to find a "smooth" bourbon that's over 60%ABV which is why the reviews on a whiskey like Kentucky Owl are so askew. Many don't understand this concept and get a little butt hurt when they spend $300 only to have their toes curl every time they partake.

Now I'm going a different path tomorrow with another gift from a pilot friend who just got back from Japan and brought me a little something. I'm intrigued to say the least!

Cheers Gents,

J

Oooh, I love the bottle!

I had a client in Glasgow many years ago that gave me Scottish whiskey boot camp training. There was a bar that we frequented that had a few hundred different bottles from mild to wild. All single malts.
On some of the real harsh charcoal tasting single malts, he would add a drop of water. BUT LITERALLY A COUPLE OF DROPS. And it made a world of difference. I personally do not drink the harsh ones, so I do not use it, but I was amazed at what a drop of water does in a generous double shot drink....

His text message to me was that he had a sentry to keep watch over my bar. My response was total confusion but now I get it.

I've got a mean little samurai keeping his eye on things!

The funny thing is that the whiskey is good but has a definite smoky quality for you that like that. I thought peat moss wasn't a thing in Japan? If it's not peat, it's a pretty significant campfire finish or as my bride says..... "It's too Bandaidy." It's probably a 4 on a scale of 1-10 regarding smokiness but I've gotten away from the Laphroaig's for the time being.

MaxGroup,

The first time I was at Glenfiddich and learning about God's elixir, they had eye droppers there next to the glass of distilled water. They weren't kidding when they said a drop or two. Like you, I was perplexed until I experienced it open up right in front of me.

It's like the whisky has been starved from water from so long in the barrel that the smallest amount seems to have a profound effect. Pretty cool actually.

Gentlemen,

I’m going a different direction this evening. Let me recommend the Maestro Double Diamond tequila if you enjoy a good sipper. It’s a reposado, floral and earthy but no oaky character on the finish. It’s unique and absolutely delicious. I picked up a case at a huge discount so we are even making margaritas with it.

Secret recipe for you margarita folks..... Here’s how to keep it simple and knock the socks off your guests. Use a basic Jose Cuervo mix with the 3:1 ratio of mix to tequila but add 1/3 as much Grand Marinier and grill some oranges a day or two before. Then, soak the tequila with the grilled oranges for 12+ hrs and you get a fantastic finish that marries the flavors well but has that unique top shelf feel.

J
Followed the directions to the tee. Also went with the Maestro. I think I’m snookered. Thank you @Jackson and @Caliche for the recommendations

Pissing rain all day here, but here is to the upcoming first full week of the TReX in my hands. Took out the spare tire carrier and to my utter disappointment found they masked off the footprint of the carrier when the bed liner was sprayed on. You can see the masking was slightly undersized to ensure that the bare box wouldn't show through but now I have to try and match the cover up. Why would they go to the effort to mask that off is beyond any reasoning I can come up with.

Well this "Spicy & Rich Dram" will ease the pain. And a second helping to @soulsea and the latest control arm fiasco 🤬 Mine is going back to the dealer on Friday for the complete service walk down. All they had time for was the PDI when I picked it up on Wednesday and they offered to keep it overnight to complete the "Issues Inspection" the next day. Instead of another day without the beast I opted to schedule an appointment for the following Friday; had a good look at it with the Tech during the PDI and though a week and a half of driving it would help to show any issues, unfortunately another one to add to the list!

For anyone looking for a different vodka - this is not only Covid appropriate but GF, gmo free and kosher if any of that matters to you.
It’s better than the polish bathtub potato vodka I got last year.
