I honestly haven’t had any of the Widow Jane collections. So it’s definitely going on the list.

The whole bourbon and scotch industry has went on fire. I remember buying Glenlivet 21 @ $150 a bottle. So I feel every distillery is definitely cashing in on it. As much as I hate to say it, usually $200 a bottle is almost the norm for a decent bottle. Or get lucky and score a Blanton’s, but usually I’m paying $150 a bottle. But that Bombergers Shenks is one of my go to’s. Seen you had that. Definitely nice collection you have.

I opened a bottle I haven’t had in years and I’d have to say it’s what I remember. It’s a nice yet uncommon whiskey with notes of pear, butterscotch and vanilla. It’s one of the few whiskies that presents notes of pear in the initial bouquet and on the palate. I wish it were more complex... I want it to be more complex but it tends to fall flat after a few brief seconds with only subtleties, all sweet, lingering on the finish. The intensity goes from a 9, to a 2 and then to a 4 which feels bizarre in the mouth instead of a nice tapering finish. It’s a whisky I’m glad I received as a gift as I know it’s a $100 bottle and I would be slightly disappointed bringing it home. As always, just my .02.

There's a few highly reputable bourbon makes I just can't get into.

Garrison Brothers is one of them. Blood Oath, Orphan Barrel, Redemption, are some other ones.

Not everyone can like the same things and I obviously can't like everything, which is somewhat good news for mr liver.

Brethren! Today is THE DAY that black beauty comes home. Unfortunately it goes straight into the shop tomorrow but I get one day and evening with her.

While I don’t have that picturesque sunset of Brother Caliche, I did end up with a nice photo. The truck is awesome! That engine is something I can’t wait to get into. I’m doing my best to hold to the break in criteria but I snuck above 2,500 a few brief times just to hear her whine and it was BEAUTIFUL. Thank you guys for the toast! More tomorrow as it’s been a long, wonderful day and the spousal unit wants to come see the new mistress.

Alright this is an interesting one, and yes I'm well aware what time it is ...

Kentucky Owl is a great whiskey maker, both bourbons and ryes. They're also very expensive whiskeys, so although their taste is rarely criticized, their value often is. I personally am a big fan of their yearly released bourbon and worth the price if I can even find one. I however find their Confiscated bourbon to be very good, but not worth the price of admission. And this is exactly how I've felt about their yearly rye releases, like the taste but get out of here with close to $200 for it.

So I was as surprised as anyone that I made myself buy my store's last couple of bottles of this year's rye release at around $300 a pop. Why would I do that when I wouldn't pay $200 for last year's rye? Because I'm weak and easily susceptible to marketing. Apparently this is Kentucky Owl's last rye release, in fact that's what it's called. Supposedly they have run out of barrels and this is it. Is it for a few years, is it forever, is it like Dodge that tells you something is the last of something and then remake basically the same thing under a different label a year later? Who knows.

“The Last Rye Batch No. 4 is the final release in this series, bottling some of the last stocks of our rye blend in inventory that have continued to mature until the blend is at its peak,” says Master Blender Dixon Dedman. “It truly marks the end of an amazing journey for Kentucky Owl since the first rye release in 2017,”

But I decided to crack it open and actually taste it. So far so good, I'm very impressed with it. It's actually deserving of a proper whiskey glass moving forward. That's as high a rating as I can give a whiskey.
