Daily driving a TRX

I am legitimately shocked by the mileage some of you get. If I am pure city I am in the 6s, and with some mixed highway I am around 8. On the trip home from the dealer I got 12 but that was absolutely babying it for break in on the highway. I have yet to take any longer trips since, but I am expecting 9-10 max.

Are you just watching it fluctuate or are you saying that you are seeing an average of 6-8 after a whole tank of driving? Because if that's the case, something isn't right. On my last tank I got 9.2 avg on a full tank from normal driving conditions on E85 lol.

I am talking about the running average displayed. There was a period of several weeks after I got the truck where I never touched the highway except for the 1 mile stretch I use between my house and my office and I got as low at 6.6. Then I had a couple week period where I went on a few longer drives over 30 minutes that included longer stretches of highway and I got up to 8.5. Since then I had been creeping back down until this weekend when again I was travelling across the city a few times of mostly highway driving.

Seems like the majority of people I see avg between 10.5-12.5, so seeing 6 on 93oct definitely seems way off base. I'd be having the dealership take a look at that point (although depending on the dealership there's just as much likelihood that they will have no idea themselves lol). I do mostly city driving myself and the fact that I get better mileage on ethanol which burns 1/3 quicker than gasoline doesn't make a whole lotta sense.

Unless he's just smashing the pedal everywhere he goes.. Can easily get 6-7 mpg if you're smashing it a lot and exclusively city driving

I dunno what kinda city driving allows for constant WOT but to each their own lol

Eh, in my cammed Charger I used to do 7-8 mpg with similar driving, so I don't think anything is amiss. My daily drive is 4.5 miles, and if I take surface streets there are 18 stop lights along the way. If I take the highway which I usually do at night it's only 12, but usually includes a full throttle blast up to 80 then another hard blast after exiting the highway. If I lived further out and had long highway stretches to drive I would probably be around 8-9 most of the time. I also drive in Baja or Sport unless on a long stretch of highway.

184 was where we stopped on the dyno. Not sure how "safe" that would feel on the road, probably not very.

Where'd you hit 150 at? I'm about to be very close to 900rwhp and I still have yet to hit 150. I don't have any stretches nearby where 150 would be guaranteed 100% traffic free.
*remembering back to 2003 with a cobra doing 160+* (pegged speedo) and that was with 550rwhp. Tuner registered 170+

We had a ~2 mile stretch of interstate to play with. Go out at 11pm on a week night and not a sole would be around. Looking back, I’m thankful no one was ever injured. Blew up a new c6 coupe in 2005 though, tune wasn’t right for the cam…

Doesn’t take much room to get there at all. I’m just south of Atlanta, so there are plenty of good roads around here and tracks when I get the opportunity. Be safe out there

I rarely go full throttle unless its wide open in front of me, but I definitely enjoy the sound of a heavy pedal.

I drive mine almost every day. But Monday through Friday when I get my kids from school, it is a 30 minute drive one way, most of the drive is above 60mph since once I leave the neighborhood I'm on either country roads or the freeway, and every time I leave I switch to snow mode. My average is between 12.5 to 13.5. Yes, I do have fun with it from time to time but most of the time it is "normal" driving. The snow mode really does help.

I love reading about the fuel mileage. Can’t wait to see how mine does on my 64 mile round trip commute 🤣. At least it’s mostly highway 😁

What app is that. I’d like to track mileage in my current truck to see what I’m actually getting and not what the gauge cluster tells me.

Oh, and yeah I ordered a Lvl 2 White TRX yesterday.
Fuelly

I've been averaging 14.3mpg just short of 500 miles on the Odo, but I'm driving like a freaking grandpa while in break in mode 🤣

I just have a few stop signs/lights on my 22 mile one-way commute over highway and the lack of stops makes a huge difference. Last couple hundred miles I've been using manual mode and stick paddling through the 8 gears at all rpm ranges, like the manual calls for. It's been a blast and manually shifting has really helped me learn about this beast of an engine. Shifting manually gives a great sense of how the truck responds to the pedal press and gear modes with respect to "fuel economy" or full out performance.

Put that beast in snow mode every time. It will help you a little bit, and every little bit counts.

Im 7.8 with 55% city and 45% highway. I do drive hard but not super hard. My AFRs are super rich. The two tuners I have spoken to have said its do to the COT, cat over temp, causing the computer to run rich to cool them. Im at the point where Im considering trading the thing in or E85 tuning it. I have a call into the dealer to have them run some diagnostics on it as well as an oil change. Im not hopeful in the results from that visit. I knew this thing would be bad but my 69 Camaro with a heavy cammed 427 big block got better mileage and I was ripping that thing hahahaha

I was just reminded of our TRX's size today and that it's a PITA. I had to park downtown, and after passing up two closer garages, I pulled into a garage labeled 6'-10" . . . only to find out that the concrete is 6'-10" but everything else (RF tag sensors, signs, some lights) aren't. No damage (except maybe a scuff on the tip of my shark fin), but I GTFO and found a newly constructed garage with a 7'-2" height and a much lower pucker factor. But, even in the 7'-2" garage, the tires touched both lines of the parking space. Fortunately, I was able to find a spot next to a no parking zone so I could put two wheels over the line, into the no parking zone, and give the other side a bit of space. As I was getting out, the driver of an F250 with a headache rack who'd also just parked gave me a knowing look and shook his head.

I mean, this is TX. This shouldn't be a problem.

I go to Houston a bunch and the parking structures downtown are a joke. Insanely tight turns and always 6'10" or less. I've seen a couple raptors in the structure I frequent most and they're splitting hairs on the clearance.
