Daily driving a TRX

I only have a little over 200 miles on my TRX but coming from a trouble free 19' Longhorn 4x4 that I loved with 57,000 miles all I can say is:
BUY THE DAMM TRX!!!

I think the biggest "shocker" for (some) people is gas mileage. You will find a number of posts where people are complaining of MPG, even a guy who sold it due to low MPG.
For me, coming from 2500 Suburbans and Hummer H2s....the TRX does just fine. Especially when you couple the expected mileage, with the HP and weight of the truck. No surprise.

The truck Fuel Economy is not that bad compared to other 1500. The difference is there but not significant. It is driving habit that makes it worse. I got 14.7 MPG in my first 500 miles break-in driving 65-70 MPH on mountain interstate. Then I switched to Sport mode after 500 and it went down to 10ish. So the capability is there, depending on how you drive it

Edit: Pic or it didn’t happen. So here it is.

To each their own, but I really don’t see why tires would even be a concern.

This is not a “if you can afford a trx you can afford the gas” type of response

But tires are relatively cheap, can offer noticeable performance differences and is one piece that is extremely important for safety (along w brakes) that I see people cheap out on while they spend a lot more on cosmetic mods (this is across all brands).

A tire that wears fast will usually give you the most traction (from mud terrain to high performance race tires, the compound is softer. While a hwy tire that lasts 30,000 plus miles offers a hard compound that gives you minimal traction on all surfaces.

Then again I also like buying new tires so maybe my point is moot.

The cost of tires is not the issue, I was just concerned about how “fast” they wear with normal driving (not off road or racing). I had an AWD AMG that listerally lasted 10k miles (edit: just looked it up, I did 8k with the factory tires, 9k with nitto and 10k with another brand that I forget), and it wasn’t the tires because I tried 2 other brands and they all wore just as fast. That’s what I wanted to know, If the TRX eats tires.

My rear tires on my Maserati Qutroporte these $1,000 each tires last about 5000 miles. The main reason is because their a soft composite and the car is so powerful it’s almost impossible not to spin the tires at take off. But that being said I’m ok with that because that’s what comes with owning a car like that.

My 2012 Raptor with the 6.2 litter V8 now has 130,000ish miles and after all tha driving it gets 10 mpg and I’m cool with that because I knew what I was getting. By the Way this truck has been super good to me, I have never had one major let alone a minor problem with this truck is going to be missed but it’s time to move on 😂 Hommy don’t do a V6, the reason the TRX was my only choice.

Now I have a 702 hp 6680 all wheel drive monster truck and it’s going to 9 miles per gallon, ish and I’m cool with that because I know what I’m gettin. absolutely sexy awesome looking, a speed that’s better than anything out there by far and there’s so few of them but I’m one of the few rid of the one of the many, I prefer that.

Bottom line, if you know what you’re buying and you know what comes along with that then you should’ve absolutely no problem with anything happens with this truck. The only thing that I hope for is that it has the same level of dependability that my Raptor had, that’s too be determinet.

Coming from someone who drives like a complete ape, it ain’t gonna be pretty if you can only manage 11-12 in a normal Ram. I saw similar numbers to that in my 6.2 Silverado. And in the TRX I was in the 7s throughout the winter, and mid 8s now.

The even bigger difference is that highway trips in the Chevy would easily hit 19. My absolute best effort to behave on the highway in the TRX netted just under 14 over 100 miles at 67 MPH.
12.5 average in my rebel. That’s what has me worried about my TRX coming in

Yep, I know what I'm getting into, was just doing some research to avoid ordering a TRX, getting it, driving it for a few thousand miles and trading it, because what I want in my next truck is to last me another 4-5 years. Also, I'm with you, I refuse to do a v6 truck. I went to test drive a 22 Tundra, was going to consider a TRD Pro but, like you said, homie don't do v6.
A buddy of mine get a new raptor every 2 years and those trucks never impressed me, actually no ford truck impresses me at all.

I DD it. On Ethanol. With 860whp. Kids love it, wife hates it. Asks me when I'm going to sell it once a week :)

LOL - well I don't plan any performance mods to mine at all, it will be stock - and my DD. Just waiting on my dealer to call me to let me come in and put the order in, hopefully tomorrow morning. And then the wait begins...its going to be a long long summer.

No interest in waiting for the 23? I’m debating canceling my order from 12/18 and putting an order for a 23 in. Just frustrating that when the truck comes in, the 23 will be released

The TRX is my daily driver, family pontoon boat puller, hunting vehicle, and long road trip warrior. The only true down side to daily driving the TRX is fuel economy, but you have to understand and accept that going into the purchase. The funny thing is in town it's similar in fuel economy to my old 2012 Power Wagon (that truck had the 5.7L Hemi and 4.56 Gears).

What concerns me is not daily driving this truck, but what vehicle replaces the TRX? This is by far the most expensive and most comfortable vehicle I've ever owned, and it's the most fun to DD. In all seriousness, where the hell do we go from here after the TRX?

Just tell her all the upgrades you are doing are in hopes that she will like it more. I promise a 4.5L whipple will make all the difference.

Honestly I didn’t even consider this. My dealer is allowing me to order one at invoice, I doubt that will be the case when the 2023 is announced. And then when will the 23’s be announced and available to order? I’m ready for a new truck yesterday so waiting another 6 months to order a 23 and then waiting another 4 for it to come in doesn’t sound fun.

Any idea on what will be different with 2023? I’m looking at ordering a 22, in white, with adv safety, level 2, running boards/tonneau and MAYBE sunroof. Not interested in anything else TBH.

Only thing I've heard, other than potentially different colors, is there may be a bigger screen in the dash in front of the steering wheel.

That’s pretty much exactly what I ordered. Without advanced safety. A lot of the guys here may know when factory’s switch over to the new model years. I’m just thinking if it’s Julyish, waiting a couple months may not be a bad idea. I saw the 23 will have a digital gauge cluster. Not sure what else though. Hopefully they address the Uconnect issues

Another pretty big benifit could be the resale. Last model year may be worth quite a bit in the years to come. For what that’s worth.

My in town mileage on winter fuel is around 10mpg.
Once the winter fuel shit is gone the truck gets a tick over 11mpg.
On the highway it depends on speed. You have to work you ass off to get the 14mpg Ram claims.
