Great response and helps me a bit as I'm someone who sometimes overthinks it to the point of no action, which in turn is an action...hah!Considering you have a trackhawck, I’m guessing you have a pretty large tax credit. A level 2 would probably push 9k in tax. So you’d have to get a 3rd party offer that’s around 9k higher than granger to recoup that tax credit. Granger probably won’t low ball you that much, they were only 2500-3000 lower than my local offers on my trade in, and I’m sure that’s pretty consistent with other people who have traded in. The discount more than makes up for that. It’s just your personal preference, what are you comfortable sales tax wise, by taking the ease of trading in locally compared to sending it to granger for what they offer. I wouldn’t mind losing 1-2k tax by trading locally if I don’t have to bother with shipping it up to Iowa, but it’s your money, not mine![]()
The local dealership has a 2021 trade-in (local) for a guy who wanted to purchase the Ignition Edition, and did from the same dealership. It's 95% on how I would spec a 22 so its tempting. While it's current used vehicle prices, its not some of the crazy ones I've seen where they are asking 20k+ over. The good news is the local dealership is willing to deal some on it. They are offering me what I would consider a very good deal on my trade-in to the point where we went round 1 of negiations, and I was able to get several thousand more to do the deal. But, if all the stars aligned, and I waited the L2 wait times, I could be looking at getting a 2022 and saving several thousand dollars, depending on trade values during the time of trade-in. The Trackhawk is my daily, but I have another vehicle I could drive in the meantime, although its my small 2dr weekend track car, so not super ideal but doable. To your point, it comes down to, am I OK with having a super easy transaction for a 2021 locally with pretty much everyything I want, and moving on with life. Overall payment cost goes down a hundred or so due to having positve equtiy in the Trackhawk, as I would be financing (and a new loan, so starting over) but I don't keep vehicles more than a couple-ish years typically. Decisons..decisions. On paper, buying new makes more sense mathmatically. But, there' still an inherent value for me to have an easy transaction when a trade-in is involved in a different state and not knowing the value of said trade-in possibly up to 6 months from now.
