Looking to share my experience and see if anyone else has gone through something similar with their TRX.

I have a 2021 Ram TRX with about 63k miles. The truck has been well maintained its entire life, with consistent oil changes and proper care. No major issues up until now.

Recently, the engine failed and after inspection the dealership found that cylinder 7 fuel injector was stuck open. They explained that this caused raw fuel to continuously enter the cylinder, which led to it hydrolocking. On top of that, fuel made its way into the oil, diluting it and ultimately causing internal engine damage, including bearing failure.

From what I was told, the repair now requires a full engine replacement (long block) along with several related components.

The truck is currently out of warranty, but I understand that fuel injectors on these trucks fall under the 36k mile coverage, not powertrain. So I’m currently working with the dealership and Stellantis to see if they’ll offer any goodwill assistance.

What’s frustrating is this doesn’t seem like a typical wear-and-tear failure. A stuck-open injector causing catastrophic engine damage feels more like a part failure than something maintenance-related.

A few questions for the community:

  • Has anyone else experienced an injector sticking open on a TRX or other Hellcat platform?
  • If so, did Ram/Stellantis offer any goodwill coverage, and what percentage did they cover?
  • Did anyone get pushback initially and then have it improved with documentation or escalation?
I’m currently waiting to hear back from corporate after the dealership submitted everything for review. Just trying to get a sense of what others have experienced in similar situations.

Appreciate any insight.

Yikes, this is becoming a common occurrence

Yeah don't like hearing these stories more and more. Thankfully I upgraded my injectors obviously it's not fool proof, but makes me feel better with the added power.

Hopefully they will help with a goodwill claim for some of the replacement.

Thanks, what upgraded fuel injectors do you go with?

Incorrect, injectors are very clearly covered by the 5-year/60,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty, however at 63k miles you are out of warranty. You can ask for a partial goodwill discount but I wouldn't count on it.

This member was within powertrain and it was denied

They are not, only on diesel engines.

Is there anything specific I should look for, like preventative maintenance or any unusual noises? I have a 2021 and I'd hate for this to happen to me. I'd like to catch it early if possible.

I'm not offering legal advice, but you'd have a pretty clear actionable claim that they are in fact implicitly covered under the engine components of the powertrain warranty, regardless of what the other poster's results were.

It’s not covered under the powertrain.

I feel like this is going to continue to happen as we have more and more vehicles pass the 60,000 threshold. I get that parts wear out, but this being such a catastrophic failure it should be looked at closer by Stalantis. Unfortunately, lawsuits are the only way to get the ball rolling.

More than likely it will, which gives everyone an excuse to say “but honey, if I don’t buy this pulley kit we can have an engine failure. This is for our safety”

Sorry for the situation OP.
If ram agrees to a goodwill cost split and it makes financial sense to have them do it go that route. Otherwise I would look at a performance shop which can do it cheaper and better.

I put the DT877 package on a few months back so fingers crossed I’m ok.

At least with the camphaser it gave you signs of failure and could keep driving for a pretty long time. This is more or less everything is fine…. Then boom
stress was enough to made me sell.... Was tired listening to the engine every morning on cold start up
