2021 TRX Catastrophic Engine Failure – Injector Stuck Open, Seeking Input

My 2021 is at 125,000km (77,671 miles), I tow daily with it and so far so good. I am planning on getting it in soon for a full fluids service on the trans, diff's etc so maybe I should get them to put some injector cleaner through it too?

what about something like this?

I have FICs in mine. Hard to say if aftermarket performance injectors will be better or worse. And we don’t even know exactly how these OEM injectors are failing but it’s concerning for sure.

Most of the time injectors get ignored much like shock absorbers. Catastrophic failures like this aside, they more typically “fade to failure” in a way that’s not always noticeable (although often apparent in oil analysis / fuel dilution levels). Myself and another engineering dork have recently done some A-B testing on some of the other port injected cars we have. And I’ll tell ya…even at lower mileage, using Top Tier fuel, additional additives like Red Line…we’ve still seen some surprising improvements in fuel dilution with new / clean injectors installed.

In light of that and these failures…if you really care and intend to keep your truck a long time, it wouldn’t be as silly as it sounds to buy a second set and rotate them in at intervals while the other set gets sent off for cleaning and testing.

Obviously shit can still happen no matter what but it should improve the odds. Only downside is the rearmost passenger side injector is a real bitch to get to on these. I did not enjoy that job.

Thank you for your feedback

Now that sounds way better than just dumping in a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in on the next fill up.

Do you know any lawyers to handle this case in Texas ?

No, I’m on the East Coast. Attorney General might could help you out or point you in the general direction. I would imagine there would be a class action lawsuits at some point if this issues keeps popping up.

What’s odd about these cases so far is that there were no warning signs. I would expect poor fuel economy, stuttering, or hard starts before a complete failure.

Does anyone have anymore information on this. What is causing the failure? Will cleaning solve it or does it make sense to replace. Does anyone have an estimated cost of replacing these?
