Window Tint

You can do the clear ceramic. Read the state regulation is is clear on what you can use. Several companies make certified material for the windshield.

"
Window Tint Standards can be found in the Texas Administrative Code, Title 37, Part 1, Rule 21.3.

NOTE: Windows immediately to the right and left of the driver that have less than 25% light transmission will fail inspection, regardless of the model year of the vehicle.

Windshield

Sunscreening devices can be applied to the windshield if all of the conditions below are met.

  1. Sunscreening devices must be applied above the AS-1 line. If there is no AS-1 line, sunscreening devices must end five inches below the top of the windshield.
  2. Sunscreening devices may not be red, amber, or blue in color.
  3. Sunscreening devices, when measured in combination with the original glass, must have a light transmittance value of 25% or more.
  4. Sunscreening devices, when measured in combination with the original glass, must have a luminous reflectance value of 25% or less.
  5. A clear (un-tinted) UV film is allowed anywhere on the front windshield without a medical exemption being required."
I’ve got 70% ceramic on my Limited. You can’t tell it’s there, and it helps with heat and UV. Don’t have a good pic of it really.

Ok I’m gonna be the idiot that has to ask what’s the point of “ceramic” tint? it’s still applied on the inside like normal tint just cost 3x as much, not being a smarta$$ it’s a real question

Read this and ask further questions. Good summary.

Good read but I’m not completely sold for the cost, my guy I’ve gone to for years uses high grade professional carbon tint he’s done quite a few vehicle for me and I’m always happy with the results never any issues fading anything and he only charges me $40 per window so normally $120 for front doors and windshield eyebrow

You do you. I ain’t trying to sell it. We’re just answering the question. All about personal preference and budget. In the grand scheme of things it probably doesn’t make much difference.

Agreed---I am about Heat Blocking with a little tint, interior protection and not screwing up my cell phone signal. I have to go where the signal is marginal and do not want to have to put on a booster antenna.

Absolutely, just conversation I do appreciate the info as I had no idea all I kept thinking every time I seen the term ceramic tint is why the hell would you want to ceramic coat the inside of your windows lol

Just for the hell of it I’ll talk to my guy about it to see what he has to say I’ve known him for years and he’s very honest won’t try to up sale people. If he says it’s great stuff then maybe I’ll get a price on it at least and go from there

Thanks, I'm here now getting them done. Windshield going clear, thanks for the info BusaDave. I'd tint it but I live near Williamson county (Live PD) and the cops there are not nice to say the least. Got pulled over in my Vette because I didn't have a front plate. I'll take the ticket but still having to putting up with them is no fun.

I see you're in DFW, just up the road per say. Thanks again.

How’s the 5% windshield do at night?
I just did 20% all around and roof with 50% on windshield. View attachment 16112
I should have said 5% all around except windshield. There’s no way my old ass could see through it at night. Sometimes I have to roll the windows down to turn. 🤣😂🤣

I had 5% all around (except the windshield) on my old truck, and it was DARK. Got pulled over once, and the cop's tint meter said 2% on the fronts, and 1% on the rear. Not having a backup camera meant I had to put a window down to back in anywhere. Haha. With all the cameras on the TRX it's probably a lot easier to pull off that dark of front windows, especially with the digital rear view mirror. I only went 20% on the fronts, and 5% on the back 3 this time around. I'll probably get 70% ceramic on the windshield one of these days.

9 months later, how has it been driving at night with your darker windshields, 35%/50%?? Looks sharp, and I like the privacy, just not sure I will be able to see at night if I go that dark.
