Made it there, loaded up, and made it home again. Not completely without some drama, though.
Got "Incorrect DEF, see dealer" message five miles from home, then a check engine light 10 miles later. About another 50 miles after that, the dreaded 150-mile countdown to 5 mph popped up on the EVIC.
That means turning the engine off, long idling, or refueling, would limit the top speed to 5 mph (limp mode). And I still had almost 400 miles to go.
Well, I had no intention of doing either of those, so kept going and made it to the dealer, as instructed by the EVIC's message.
Got there before closing, and there they reflashed the ECM, which made the check engine light and message go away. Not being completely confident in the situation, I got fuel ASAP, to make it home again without having to stop.
And sure enough, five miles later the message reappeared, then the check engine light, and eventually the 150-mile countdown started.
Now that the decision to drive back the same day had been made for me, I could only hope there would be no flat tires or getting pulled over on these largely desolate 2-lane roads, forcing me to stop.
Anyway, made it home before 3 AM, and as you can see, it looks like any white TRX. For now.

Now the forced limp mode (AKA break-in) can begin.
