Tri State TRX (NY,NJ,CT)

If it is a rebel it should be under 6,000 lbs. You should be able to go to the DMV with the registration form showing change from commercial to passenger. Fill out your info and the trucks info. The truck info should have the weight under 6,000 lbs and passenger plates will be given. Putting a weight over 6,000 is what triggers the commercial here in NY. You will need the current registration, insurance card, and the title may be required. Since your truck has a lien you should still receive a Title but it will show the lienholder at the bottom. It took me about 6 weeks to receive my title.
Do I need to apply my title ? I do not have received my title Since it has been 3 months.

I tried the Massapequa one today and the lady behind the counter straight up said no. without an invoice for a cover, seats, and new weight paperwork. Which D...M-V did you use? Any help would be much appreciated. Just got my TRX yesterday.
It may not be the DMV but the person you get behind the counter. I brought my current registration, insurance card, and title. I filled out the registration form and did change of registration. The only paper they asked me was for a weight of the truck. I went to the local Metal Recycling (Gershow in Medford) and they gave me a weight slip. It had no truck info though. 6,600 lbs. In the modification section of the registration I had to write that I added the hard cover, the seats, and seatbelts (I also said I added a bedrug).

I did not apply for mine but I bought in NY. I did have a friend that I helped pick up a brand new Chevy in Maryland. They received their title automatically from NY about 2 months later. Let me ask you this, you received temporary plates from the out of state dealer. Have you received NY plates yet? If you have not received NY plates yet than your dealer was slow at sending in paperwork to NY or NY is just taking too long processing your paperwork. I would say that you will receive plates first than expect 6 weeks for title. You may be able to contact the dealership to get you a title or atleast copy of it. You can also request a title from NY state but I am not sure the cost or the procedure but you can call NY DMV and ask them. They may even be able to tell your status over the phone and confirm your title is coming soon.

You should have the title in a couple weeks I would think. I do not know if it is required if you have your registration and insurance card you should be fine but it may also depend on the person you get. Since you have NY plates it should be in the system. I know the lady I got was super nice. Most important is the weight you note in the truck info, make sure it is below 6,000. Passenger plates should be no problem.

Actually I do not know what exact weight it is since I do not have title yet . But it is Rebel, I think it is below 6000 lbs.

I just read NYS DMV website. It says bring Drivers License, Current Registration, Title, Insurance Card, and the MV-82. It says you will have to wait to receive your title first. You could try without the title but depending on the person they may or may not help you. On MV-82 at the top right check off passenger plates. Than in section 1 you want to change of registration. That should be all you need. Also Google says the rebel is between 5,096 to 5,314 lbs

Thank you for these information. I really appreciate it. I just received copy of my title from dealer, which shipping weight is 5352lbs.

The copy of the Title may be enough for the DMV but it also may just depend on the person you get.

This is James. I am from long island too. I just received my plates for new RAM Rebel and find those plates are commercial. I know Rebel should be passenger vehicle, my dealer is at another state and could not help. I see your post that you could transfer your commercial to passenger in DMV. What document the DMV require ? I do not have title in hand since it has lien, is it matter ? Which DMV you went ? Thanks a lot
James if you are financing the rebel all you need is to fill out the application and check off the back of the application a modification was made by adding affixed seats and cab. I don’t think the rebel weighs more than 6000.. i did it for my TRX.

Piece of cake.. you just have re-Register it to passenger plate.. you don’t have a weight issue like the TRX
Yes. Just called DMV and waited almost one hour to talk right agent. Some stupid guy in the DMV put wrong weight with 7500 lbs, so I received commercial plates...

Yes bc you only have the problem is with the TRX not rebel

apparently totally dependent on the person at the counter. I was just turned away from the DMV in Riverhead. Was told that I needed to supply proof that I've made the modifications to my TRX (to include permanent seats, seat belts, etc)

That is unfortunate. Try another DMV or go another day and hope for someone different.

You might have to go a DMV in Queens. Where is less strict

racking up the miles 12k and change now on the truck. No issues and looking to go clamping
