Put a cap on it and register it as a suburban, or tell DMV that you did it. You will have to fill out the green form again. People have been doing it with 3/4 tons forever

As robsTRX said , fill out new registration form and put down you put a permanent cap on truck , no one checks , they just take your title and send you a new one listing the trx as a surburban . I just did it last week . Just an FYI use the drop box at DMV no appointment required and they text you to come pick up your new plates in about 2 days .

No, no QC there - it's just a big parking lot. My truck sat in Twin Oaks for 8 or 9 days, and that was AFTER the yard accepted my dealer's "Hot Tag" request (basically means, 'we sold this truck, and the buyer wants it RFN - so pretty please, with sugar on top, deliver the ****ing truck').

I just got done with the DMV yesterday and the process was as simple as everyone explained here. Just put down on the back of the form you have a permanent cap and they will re-register you on the spot with almost no questions. I was in and out in about 40 mins and have my new plates/registration. Now to wait another 2-3 months for my new title.

So no is receipt needed for verification that you added the permanent cap. I just got my truck yesterday how long did you wait until you re-registered the vehicle

They didn't ask me for any verification that it was done, I just wrote it in a box on the back of the form.

I got my truck in April and my title didn't come until end of June which was the holdup, I would have done it sooner if the title came earlier.

I ended up changing my front end so now I have the black skid plate sitting in my house. I prefer to do local for pickup/meet up rather than shipping because it is heavy. $300.

I tried the Massapequa one today and the lady behind the counter straight up said no. without an invoice for a cover, seats, and new weight paperwork. Which D...M-V did you use? Any help would be much appreciated. Just got my TRX yesterday.

So my saga - I live in (“on” for Long Islanders) Western Long Island so surrounded by Parkways that you cant use with Commercial plates: Meadowbrook, Grand Central, Southern State, Wantagh, Northern State, Sagtikos, Cross Island, Belt parkway, etc. etc. etc. I‘m 1/4 of a mile from I495/ the Long Island Expressway, it’s the main highway but with Commercial plates you cannot use the HOV lane (points + fine) or even drive in the left lane! No bueno! Major fubar! Plus its more $ for commercial vehicle registration.

- I ordered personalized plates last fall that I registered to my SUV, plans were to transfer them once my TRX arrived.

- In February when my truck was inbound my salesman informed me because of the weight (+6001 lbs) it would be Commercial plates. I was pissed! When I saw the part about a camper top, etc. on DMV’s site I asked my salesman about sending him a receipt for that. He called back & said the owner of the dealership says all TRX’s will need to leave with commercial plates, they wouldn’t do it. I was even thinking of actually buying a camper top & the rest of the equipment, having it installed just to get around the Commercial plates thing & then removing it.

- I was able to register the TRX today at DMV (the appointment I made weeks ago) as a passenger vehicle & was able to transfer my personalized plates. Not sure if I just got lucky with the person that helped me or what but they didn’t ask for a receipt for a camper top. I had a receipt from the Retrax XR & a BedRug XLT mat that I was going to play off that but didn’t need to, I just said I need to transfer my personalized passenger plates to a vehicle that’s currently registered as a commercial vehicle that is not going to be used as commercial vehicle. There is a question on the back of the registration form that asks about modifications so I listed a camper top, mattress & refrigerator in that area. There is a section that asks for GVWR which I listed from what was on the registration but she said you cant register it as a passenger vehicle with that & she crossed it out, not sure what she wrote. They needed my title which I had with me, they kept it and will send me a new one in 6 weeks with “Passenger vehicle”.. And I needed to go back outside & take the commercial plates off in the parking lot to return them, so if anyone is doing this, may want to just bring the plates in with you.... Got the new windshield sticker & paper regi & made out of there like a Cheetah on Cocaine. Never thought I’d be so damn happy about a damn license plate, people must have thought I was nuts for my touch down celebration dance in the DMV parking lot! —— Cannot wait to make like Snake Plissken!

I know Rebel should be passenger vehicle, my dealer is at another state and could not help. I see your post that you could transfer your commercial to passenger in DMV. What document the DMV require ? I do not have title in hand since it has lien, is it matter ? Which DMV you went ? Thanks a lot

If it is a rebel it should be under 6,000 lbs. You should be able to go to the DMV with the registration form showing change from commercial to passenger. Fill out your info and the trucks info. The truck info should have the weight under 6,000 lbs and passenger plates will be given. Putting a weight over 6,000 is what triggers the commercial here in NY. You will need the current registration, insurance card, and the title may be required. Since your truck has a lien you should still receive a Title but it will show the lienholder at the bottom. It took me about 6 weeks to receive my title.
