Tonneau Covers?

Welcome to the forum @RFHavens - That cover looks awesome. First time I've ever seen that brand.

Anyone know if there is a tonneau cover that is compatible with the Ram Bar option?

I have had two bakflip covers on my Ford Raptors. Both of them leaked but worse they absorbed water in between the two aluminum panels making it very heavy and awkward to open. I have a friend with one on a Ram ...same problem!

My build has the RamBar so I assume my best bet is one of the retractable covers, which I have zero experience with. I usually install an X4. I'm looking forward to someone getting their truck with the RamBar and posting some feedback.

I’m planning on going with a Retrax. I had one on my Raptor and was really happy with it. Anyone know of the regular Ram 1500 version fits the TRX?

The interior dimensions of the TRX bed are the same as the interior dimensions of the regular 1500 bed.

even the retrax the channel mounts to the top of the bed rails and you will likely not have enough clearance with the rambar installed. You might just have to wait and see what the clearance is and see if there is anything that will fit but I have a funny feeling that it is an either or with the rambar and a tonnea without some modifications to one or both since even ram wont let you put both on from the factory

I’ve had 2 Undercover Flex foldable covers. (Same as the bakflip)... I would NOT recommend the Undercover company. One of my covers flew off on the highway lol I fought them and that’s how I got the 2nd one for free. They tried to make me pay for it but I showed them how their design is flawed. They new one was completely different on the latches but it ended up failing too... both 3 locking braces have broken off, the rails are trash and the new design is trash. If you want one bedcover like this, then go with the bakflip. Seems better quality.

A big thing that I like about the Retrax is you can lock it in place at any point. This is a pain on the tri-flip covers. So I’m leaning towards Retrax. I heard if you get the power Retrax, that you can’t manually open it, it has to be opened with the remote only.... Does anyone know if this is true or not?

I called retrax directly and they told me that the power option cover cannot be opened manually... something to think about for sure

You can also check out Pace Edwards ultra groove metal cover with power option. I believe they have a safety feature where you can open the cover even if the power is dead. Another thing they have is an optional adapter kit where you can install a toggle switch button in the back of the truck so you can use the power feature to open the tonneau cover from the inside of the bed with mounted push button

That’s a very nice option. Thanks.

Very nice! Thanks buddy! I'll check those out. I asked some dealerships this week that I visit with for work and not one person recommended retrax lol which surprised me

I've owned the Pace Edwards Ultragroove Metal (non-power) cover for three years on my 2013 Ram 3500, and it's been a great cover that hasn't really faded color at all, and the integrated T-slot rail system we use heavily storing bikes/kayaks/snowboards/etc. above the bed of the truck all while still being able to pull travel trailer camper. This cover also has a spring-loaded opening feature that works well, but sometimes slows down during really cold weather and snow.

I think I'm going to try and go with the Retrax Pro XR (non-power) for my TRX though. Mainly because the Retrax has lifetime warranty, more T-slot accessories are certified with Retrax vs. Pace Edwards (like Yakima Overhaul HD towers), and also just wanting to try something different.

Again, no major complaints about the Pace Edwards ultragoove metal, but I think the warranty is only 2 or 3 years though.

Good luck!

Also... out here in Colorado almost all of the outdoor/off-road accessory store/installers (rack attack, off road rack, etc.) all recommend Retrax over the Pace Edwards because of lifetime warranty and compatibility/certification with other accessories (as they deal with these covers all the time). Something to think about and consider for sure.

However, they told me the same thing 3 years ago and I still bought the Pace Edwards... :)

I have not heard a lot of talk about Extang. I have been using their covers for years. Big fan of the tri-fold soft covers, great job at keeping water out. I think I need a pic that says "change my mind" LOL

I had the Extang tri-fold for several years and absolutely loved it. Very heavy duty and well built, and pretty much kept my bed dry.

The main reason I'm not using Extang tri-fold for my TRX is because I need a the integrated T-slot rails built into the tonneau so I can mount cross bars above the bed to hold accessories (bikes, snowboards, etc.). Tri-fold covers won't work if you have cross bars mounted above your bed, so need to focus on retractable covers (like the Retrax Pro XR).

If I didn't want/need to mount accessories above my truck bed, I would most definitely go back to using Extang tri-fold... it was awesome!

I'm going to attempt to mount the Retrax Pro XR tonneau cover WITH the Rambar. Have taken measurements with the Rambar on a TRX in-person and have measurements on the tonneau from the manufacturer... it's going to be close.. :) I will post videos when I'm done.

I got the factory cover. Do you guys think that it is not good at all?

To be honest, I don't have any experience with the factory cover and haven't even seen it in-person.

For me, I didn't even consider the factory tonneau cover because I need the T-slot integrated rail system which the factory cover does not have.

Perhaps others can chime in with experience on the factory tonneau covers.

Yes, please keep us posted. I'm interested in this combo as well.
