Tazer DT

since I have installed Tazer I have noticed a delay in my breaks release after shifting to reverse. I notice I’m still at a stop after letting go of breaks and I can see the brake lights still on and after about 2-3 seconds they go out as breaks released. I also have noticed my widget camera options I have on my Home Screen are unavailable on 75% of vehicle start ups, until I go into the vehicle then camera page and hit a camera option. Once I go back to home screen after that my widget cameras are available. All this was noticed after installing Tazer.

Another Tazer problem. Now I can't access the in dash menu with the steering wheel buttons so I have no way to change settings or unmarry the thing. Not sure if I remove it from the truck and update it and put it back in if that will help things or hurt them. Is there any way to unmarry without the in dash menu available, or restore all factory settings so I can get away from this thing? I emailed the manufacturer without a response as of yet.

Just unplug it and update it. You will be fine. You can update it without having to unmarry it

So second time this happens when I unplug the battery with the tazer connected. Once I connect the battery again my cluster goes blank and the lane assist light stays on. The truck dies when going into drive. I have to remove the tazer and leave the battery unplugged for a few hours for it to reset. Then start the truck "stock" I only use live settings so it's not married.

When removing my tazer my uconnect screen goes blank, no buttons work and the screen is just fully black. If I plug the tazer back in the screen works again as usual. I’ve updated to latest firmware and still nothing.

What do I need to do to get the screen to work without the tazer plugged in?

Update:
I plugged the cables that connect to the tazer back in to their original slot in the truck and the screen works again without the tazer plugged in now.

I feel like in the past I could have just left the tazer cables hanging when not plugged in but maybe I’m remembering wrong.

I wish there is a simple way to just get amber halos w/o a Tazer... That's the only mod I want from it..

Seems there could be a plug and play wiring adaptor that routes the white halo voltage to the ambers......

.

Auto Closing Mirrors, Auto Down on Windows, Auto eBrake Engage when locked are just some of the other great features.

There is... AlfaOBD or JScan. Either one is a 3rd of the price of Tazer.

Thank you, I don't care about price, only to easily and quickly changing halos to amber without creating any more issues.. Not being fluent in either of those apps, or bypassing the gateway I'm not sure they are for me....

It really comes down to what you want your lights to do. If you just want drl's to be amber, any of the solutions will accomplish that. The Tazer will allow you to have drl's amber and on all of the time as well as marker lights. Hope this helps.

I’m sure that a member that is local to you would be happy to help you out for free or possibly a 6 pack. From what I understand, it’s very simple to do if you know what you are doing.

I've used the tazer for over 2 years and love it. Recently got the truck tunned and upon getting it back from the tunner I installed the tazer and now it seems to be draining my battery. Had to jump the truck and the battery is about a year old.

Functions such as Amber drls, folding mirrors, camera on turn signals(active functions) were all I've ever used it for and they all work like before.

Called the tuner and he said he thinks the tazer could be trying to override something in the tune. (Could be wrong but think in the DCM?)

I removed the tazer and battery is no longer getting drained.
Any ideas?

This is the 2nd parade of mine you’ve tried to rain on this week! 😂

I’ve had several Tazers in other vehicles and never had an issue. I’ve also known Joe, the owner of Z Automotive to be very responsive to questions others have had so I don’t know why you haven’t had any luck. I just chatted with him today and know that he is on a family vacation until Wednesday so I suggest to try him again when he gets back.
Funny yall are talking about issues with the tazer. I’m not sure if anyone else has experienced this but I have people that get behind me on the road tell me pretty often that my port driver side brake light turns on and doesn’t turn off when the brakes are released. After doing a full reboot on the tazer, it fixes it back to normal. Just wanting to get the word out so yall can keep an eye on it. It’ll get you pulled over pretty quickly for sure. Here’s a pic of my tail lights while it’s bugging out

This happened to me too. Think it was something to do with using the brake hold feature. If you’re not using that then I have no clue what causes it

I got a Check Engine Light (CEL) with the Tazer DT.

I just got a second-hand unmarried Tazer DT for my truck and upgraded to the latest 18.2.6 firmware. I only wanted to enable 2 things:
  • KillByFob = enabled
  • Amber DRL = Both
I've left the Tazer DT unmarried in my truck.

After I made these changes while the truck was running, I shutoff the engine. I went outside and clicked the fob Lock button and got the honk #1 (locked) and honk #2 (pedal killed). I clicked the fob Unlock button and started the truck. I got a CEL. I shutoff the truck and started it again. Same, CEL.

Going to the Check DTC menu, the EVIC showed "Cruise Control Unavailable Below Minimum Speed". I cleared the DTC and shutoff the engine. Two shutoffs and two engine starts later, then the CEL disappeared. We'll see what happens when I start the truck again later...

Does this have something to do with the cruise control button used by the Tazer DT? What did I do wrong in the process?

I'll give you my two cents, take it for what it's worth... which may be nothin'.
I had the same errors as you, using the same functions, but it always cleared once I entered the PIN. The only difference was mine was married. Keyword "was"....
After frying my RF Hub and a trip to my dealer on a flatbed to get a new RF Hub programmed I took the Tazer out. There are a couple of common denominators on every Tazer thread I've looked at. Everyone who fried their RF Hub's had a.) Tazer's married; b.) using the security features (specifically kill pedal, kill by fob.) I personally used Kill by Fob for a long time without any issues. When I turned on the kill pedal feature I started having issues within a couple weeks.
I know many TRX owners who don't marry the Tazer and simply use it for the auto-fold mirrors and the amber running lights. I'm a bit gun shy and won't be putting mine back in.
I'm not sayin do or don't use the Tazer, just sayin' be careful. The first time it happened I was able to reset my RF Hub on my own and it came back to life (negative + positive battery cables touching for a few seconds.) The 2nd time it died it was totally out, had to be replaced. You'll know it's out because your proximity sensors will fail, and when you get into the truck you won't be able to get it into accessory mode (or disengage the e-brake) and your security system will go nuts until your battery dies and you'll get dozens of diagnostic codes.... yea.

Wow. OK, thanks. I've heard on the 5thgenrams.com forums that these were largely TRX and 2022 and later issues. I have a 2023, but not TRX.

My first reaction when I got the CEL was "CEL? I'm ripping out this damn thing!!!" but decided I'll give it a few more tries. I might still end up at the same conclusion. One thing for sure -- there is no way I'm ever going to "marry" this thing to my truck. No way. It is under high scrutiny and low confidence. If it so much as looks at me the wrong way, I'm ripping it out for good. One more CEL and it's gone. We'll see how it goes. I'm glad I bought it used, so if I sell it I won't take such a big hit.

BTW, I texted @ZAutomotive for support on the CEL. .... crickets...
