Stellantis touts mega range of 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger

This kind of hybrid (extender) is prevalent in Asia, I don't know why America is so late to the game.
the 130kW engine can power the truck alone ( by generating electricity to the motors directly) That is when the battery is completely dead.
In the real world, if you can manage your power consumption average below 130kW, you will always have your battery on!
CelloMom on Cars: How much horsepower do you need? (cellomomcars.com) 130kw = 175hp, so normal cruising on the highway should be handled by the engine alone. In reality, even on a long road trip, the battery will never deplete, because the average consumption is lower than the power generated by the engine.

EPA numbers are calculated by a specific course and speeds. Manufacturers build the vehicles to perform the best under these conditions. If memory serves... 70 degress, no air conditioning, speeds varying between 35 and 50. That ones for highway mpg. It's not even close to what I consider highway driving. Programing a car to shut off at each stop and use the starter every 30 seconds is an easy way to save fuel to get the city mpg rating.

I don't mind the idea. Makes sense for them to use tech they have already and reapply it. Is this truck for me? No. Do I think this truck will work well for some people? Yes. I'm going to keep an eye on reviews from actual users.

the mpg numbers of the v6 won’t really be the same as they are in the regular ram. The v6 used as a generator should be getting substantially higher Economy number’s.

I don’t think I agree with this. There’s no way it’s more efficient to run an engine, convert to electricity, store it, and convert back to kinetic energy. There are too many losses there, as compared to the traditional engine-to-wheels setup.

I mean the v6 running as a generator should use less gas than the same V6 being used as a drive engine.

Regardless. A full size truck with gas as a second option is exactly what I want.
