S&B Cold Air Intake Ram TRX

Roger that, no big deal. I'll see if maybe they can send me one when they come available. A bonus filter would be cool.
Just a heads up. They’re way behind. My filter was slightly messed up, and they’re sending me a new one. But they said in general they’re having a super hard time keeping up with orders.

Dry ones aren’t available anywhere including direct from S&B
Yeah, S&B said the same. The dry filters are still in production so the dealer sold me something that doesn’t even exist. I’d rather have the oiled than no kit at all so I’m good with it.

Yep my original order through S&B was for the dry and they called me to tell me the dry was another 30 days out and that was about 3 weeks ago. I’m happy I switched and went with the oiled one. Once the dry is available I’ll pick one up. I think they’re around $140. I’ll grab one for the more dusty off road stuff.

In your opinion what are the advantages/disadvantages of each, cloth reusable vs dry?
Dry filters tend to catch more of the incoming contaminants than wet do. Small difference, but still a difference worth noting.

Damn, I feel guilty now. I ordered Sunday from SDHQ off road and received it today. They actually had them in stock (doesn’t look like they do anymore). I did order the dry filter and got the oiled somehow, but I can’t complain. Pretty stoked to get this ridiculous thing on the truck.View attachment 46221
I live in Phoenix and drove over there last Saturday and picked mine up! The dry filter is out of stock fyi

Dry one is grey not red.

They do not have any more in stock, I called them today and asked. They emailed me back and said they were out

So right off the bat, the afe you could hear more in cabin, s&b it relatively quiet. I’ve only had it (s&b) on a couple hours but there is a significant difference in cabin.

The performance page intake temp is slightly higher today, outside temps are also 5-10 degrees warmer too so that may not be a fair comparison but when I dropped off the truck to get the intake and leveling kit installed I was seeing temps ranging from 105-115 degrees (it) on the highway and outside temp was 77-79 degrees. With the s&b installed I was seeing intake temps from 115-125 degrees (it) but outside temp was between 84-87 degrees. Not sure this is anything but figured I would make mention of it. Will also watch it when I can remember.

Also, when is sport or Baja it seemed the afe intake caused more of an audible rumble/ backfire when coming to a stop… truck also got the Geiser springs/ leveling kit installed so not sure if it’s more quiet because it got a tiny lift, who knows, just my initial thoughts…

I’m curious for more comparison on this… can you do some video? My friend has an AFE on his and S&B on mine and we have the exact opposite experience. He said mine is louder. I noticed my intake temps dropped from stock with the S&B but not sure what his temps are with the AFE.

I’ll figure out how to capture it, but it’s night and day, that afe was very loud in cabin, this sb I don’t hear very much at all, as far as that translates to performance I couldn’t tell ya… also trucks got an awe exhaust not sure that matters at all but that’s what’s on it….

Anyone running a billet tech catch can with this? Or know if it will work with it? TIA

I have the UPR which appears to mount in the same place as the billet tech. Clears it just fine.

Was able to get mine installed this morning and have some first impressions.

First, the noise level will be a big difference over stock, but it is identical to the AFE Super Stock tube I took off. Which is to say it’s perfect for my tastes. Tame in auto, more vocal in sport. I will say, the AFE Super Stock did come with nicer T-bolt clamps and nicer couplers too. Nothing wrong with the S&B parts, just a little cheaper. Install went fine and took around an hour. The plastic window was the biggest bitch to get in place. Took a little fighting.

I also did some back to back testing. I did 5 0-60 runs with each intake measured with the Dragy. Intake temps were very similar between the two ranging from 115-125. Coolant, oil and trans temps were 200-205 for every test. 2000 RPM launch, and very similar weather conditions.

The average 0-60 with the AFE Super Stock was 4.48 seconds. Ambient temp 70 degrees, DA 1682ft.

The average 0-60 with the S&B was 4.33 seconds. 70 degrees, DA 1666ft. I also had a full tank for the S&B runs and only half for the AFE. So even with the deck stacked against it slightly, the S&B did perform. And I suspect the difference would be a little more apparent going from stock to the S&B.

I also noted boost was indeed 1 PSI higher. Truck was easily hitting 11 PSI with the S&B. The AFE Super Stock never exceeded 10 during my test runs. In fact, it hasn’t seen 11 PSI since the weather warmed up. So that was a nice surprise and probably accounts for the measured improvements.

Nothing super scientific, but better than just saying it feels faster!

Side note, it also sounds really cool with the clear lid removed. Definitely louder and probably close to the Bwoody. Intake air temps were only like 5 degrees warmer, so not a huge difference in this weather. I put it back on, but it’s nice to know I can add more noise in minutes if I want it.
