S&B Cold Air Intake Ram TRX

My wife surprise ordered me a S&B intake for my truck the other day, it showed up today hence why I jumped into this thread today. I hope the new rad shroud cover is the right one so I can cut it up and store the original with the rest of the intake parts. I'll report back tomorrow to confirm that the part number I found and posted is indeed for the "Easter egg" cover.

Wife that orders a "surprise" intake for your TRX = definite keeper !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My wife bought me mine for Christmas. She LOVES the supercharger whine

Is anyone else really disappointed with the quality of the hardware supplied with the S&B intake? Leaving aside the cheesy worm clamps, either they routered the holes in the back of the intake box that the bolts go through to attach it to the cross brace much too large or the supplied washers are much too small. I can't even snug up the nuts or the washers slide right through the holes. Of course it's now after 9pm so I have to wait until morning to go pick up some larger washers. Oh and who the heck knows if it's going to line up properly in the truck because there's so much room in those holes to put the intake on crooked, too high or too low. I guess I'll have to put it in and see and then adjust it and put the filter in after it's mounted to the truck.

Also maybe put a f@$%ing warning on the instructions to be careful removing the IAT sensor from the stock intake tube, the positioning tab snapped clean off mine, luckily the local dealer has one on the shelf. Ok that one's on me but seriously, put a note in the instructions... ugh

I keep reading about fitment and hardware issues so I guess I got lucky. My intake fit perfectly and I had absolutely no issues with the hardware.

Did you actually break the sensor?
Just the locking tab on the side of it that keeps it from turning in the grommet.

Cheap fix? When i had my bwoody, I thought it was going to fall out. But on my S*B it sits pretty good. Not sure about the filter, it was a pain to get on..

I added fender washers too and just aligned the fasteners in the center of the holes. I believe in the original thread where folks were the first to install these it was discussed. Considering the bolts are really just in shear you don’t need to tighten them down much. Most people probably over tighten (myself included). Also, I preferred to reuse the stock plastic push rivets over the supplied ones.

Well it's finally in and I absolutely love the whine. There's a few things they could do better but it is a quality piece of kit.

$30 from the dealer, easy to pop the old one out and the new one in even after everything is installed. Honestly I probably could have just left it as is and it would have been fine but I would have been thinking about it all the time so had to replace it.

Anyone having issues with their cover keep popping off. Happened to me twice so far. Then getting it back on without grease is almost impossible.

Happened to me at first too. It means you don’t have it properly seated on the box. I took mine out, and had a buddy help me ensure it was tight throughout.

No issues and no grease here. I can remove lid & reinstall in under a minute. Start putting lid in from the back first. Slide it into its slot and then muscle it in on sides & front.

Yeah I’ve done all that. It’s almost like the hole is too small (TWSS) cuz the gasket even without the acrylic is waaay to large

Is this intake worth putting on my stock TRX or not? I want a louder whine from the supercharger but not cause more issues if that makes sense just for some noise

Yes, it’s definitely worth it. The sound difference is like heaven.

Yes & we have them in stock when ready!

Definitely worth it. And in our Texas winter(that 3-5 days when it drops to the 60's and 70's), I remove the acrylic cover and the whine is louder. If you do get one, go to home depot and get some fender washers for the mounting brackets

*And spray paint the bolts and washers black, the stainless look doesn't look that good
