Radar Detector Battle: Redline 360c vs Valentine V1 Gen2

Dragging this thread out again… I want a really tight relatively concealed hardwire install. Not interested in devices hanging all over my windshield.

Looking for thoughts on both model and mounting solutions.

Since it’s been a while what’s every one doing currently?

V1G2 is still my baby, but since this thread I ditched the Blendmount for this. If there’s a sleeker combo I haven’t seen it.

If you need stealth, the current champ is the Valentine One G2. If detectors are not frowned upon in your neck of the woods, the Uniden R8 is the best unit available.

The Escort line is currently plagued with our performance and lots of falses. Their flagship, the Redline 360c, alerts constantly to something in our trucks on the newest firmware and is borderline unusable. I own one and it is terrible since the latest update. Another forum member here is fighting the same issue. Avoid!

Absolute best way to mount a radar system in these trucks. It's clean, tucked up under the mirror, and still very functional.

This is unfortunately very true of the Redline 360c. It's a fantastic detector but the last update has hurt it's reliability in the TRX but still fine in my other cars. I hope they fix it but with Escorts track record with updates it's not likely to be any time soon.

Most of them produce similar results, but if you're out there on the road by yourself, no radar can save you.

I did this setup in my C7 as the blendmount blocked to much of my view. However I’m still a big fan of the blendmount in these trucks. I now run the R8 in my TRX and a V1 Gen2 in my C8. Both are great in their own way.

I've been wondering what was going on since after the last software update I now get "POP Alerts" all the time in my F450 on the road I drive daily to and from my shop. I thought maybe it was something new installed on that particular road, but maybe it was the update that is to blame. I've been running one of my V1s in another truck on the same road every day for the past week and don't get any falses. Have you heard that it is indeed the update that is causing all of the new falses?

Check out the video below from Vortex Radar that discusses the new updates and it’s issues.

Huh? I don't get it.

If I'm truly out there on the road by myself I wouldn't need a detector. In reality the roads here do have traffic on them. Not a lot, and in the middle the day it can be five miles or more before meeting another vehicle.

Still, the trusty Valentines have saved my butt more times than I can remember, generally by picking up signals from somewhat long distances.

He's saying that if you're on the road by yourself and your radar detector goes off it doesn't matter because the cop just got YOUR speed and not someone in front of you. The radar detector at that point is simply letting you know that you're about to get pulled over lol

That's disappointing because I like Escort's app and the way they alert you to other radar pings from other people's radar when you're driving. I was about to pull the trigger on the Redline 360c to replace my aging escort passport based on your video...

I suppose that if a detector has a very short range, that could happen.

In my case, I generally get a warning at least a mile ahead of time, often about twice that. Of course, it does help that they usually leave their radar on around here.

If not, by the time they see me and turn it on, I have seen them. That's the only time I may have to use the brakes.

I didn’t think cops were setting speed traps on totally empty roads. If their goal is to actually enforce and write tickets, that wouldn’t make much sense to me. Usually there’s something that will give them up one way or the other. Whether it be their constant-on radar that they didn’t turn off, or a reflection off another vehicle.

We can spend all day pointing out far-fetched scenarios where just about anything won’t work. Airbags, condoms, parachutes, whatever. Doesn’t mean these things don’t improve our chances!

Yep, I'm in the same boat. Have an unopened Redline 360c ready to replace my 1st gen Max 360. Other than changing settings, I don't use Escorts app much (prefer Waze) but the over-air updates are nice.

Have been seriously considering the R8 with it's great reviews but the idea of going back to old-school wired firmware and database updates is a big negative. Maybe it's not that important in the short term, but no way am I going to be thinking I need to grab my detector, find a PC, and run a firmware update on any regular basis. Maybe someone with an R8 can share if I'm off on that assumption?

Was looking forward to installing the Redline this weekend too! Now back to the drawing board but sure is nice to have the shared knowledge on this board.

Here they sure don't. Instead they're doing about the same speeds that I am (80-100+ in 55-60 zones) and it's usually two of them in 70 miles, sometimes four.

They're trying to get to where they're going, just like I am. And we meet somewhere along the way. It's a fairly safe bet that they know it's me, and I seem to get away with some speeding on the open roads since they also know that I will NOT exceed the limits in towns.

Yes. Some officers do leave their radar on, when they're not working traffic, as a deterrence to slow down everyone who has a radar detector. Officers who are working traffic and looking for speeders will leave their radars on standby mode. They will look for the vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed and then activate their radar (usually called instant on). Unless there were vehicles traveling fast in front of you and near your location, your radar detector will not save you.

I'm somewhat familiar with how they operate their radars. And the one ticket I received in the past several years was after getting hit with laser when cresting a hill. Then a detector can't help much.

Cop was very nice and wrote me for about a 1/4 of the excessive speed after I explained that had I been driving the Trackhawk we wouldn't be talking. Instead, the little 4-banger I was driving (for the first time) barely got past the two cars before running out of passing lane.

With the Trackhawk I would've been past them 1/3 the way up the hill and off the throttle long before the crest.
Guess he saw, and appreciated, the logic and honesty in that.

Redline saved my life (jailtime) and license many times lmao. No tickets in 9 years

I'm hoping for another update soon but like I said, that's unlikely. I love the detector otherwise and worst case, hopefully they give us an option to roll back an update. The new update is pretty good outside of the fact that the K band is almost TOO sensitive now...
