Oil Catch Can on my new 2023 Ram TRX

I recently jumped shipped and threw some money at a BT catch can my last oil change, I'm no expert, but when I see the PCV hose full of oil, it does worry me a bit. Anyway, I checked on the can last week post 500-900 miles after oil change and there was some in there..
Here's the best way to look at it - yes there will still be some blow-by even with a catch can. What you're "catching" in your can is what's not being reintroduced into your intake mani. There will always be some residue in the hose as i have not seen 1 can that can catch everything. Maybe run 2 cans in line haha to see what the 1st one is missing!

P.S. are you running a 1-way check valve on your BT can (assuming it's on the pass. side)? There's debate about it but BT recommends a check valve on that side to prevent the can from pressurizing. I've run a BT can on my last 6-7 vehicles and have always run a 1-way check valve with no issue.

Woah, I didn’t catch the check valve portion on their end that’s needed. Will definitely look for one now. Yeah, I know it won’t catch 100% of everything, but I guess some peace of mind is better than none lol, two in series would be sick tbh ahah

dont tempt me - i've thought about it haha

Probably you want to check ADD1 can. I have it on my Durango, and damn! It has a dipstick to check oil level inside the can. Design is very nice.

I have the same one. Mounted it on the strut bar next to the SB intake. Had to get the carbon one because snob lol

So for any of those who are interested in installing a Catch can on the driver side of the PCV system, and in addition to the Amazon special that I had previously posted photos of, the Billet tech catch can with a simple fabbed up L-bracket from Home Depot will work.

It’s not the most beautiful piece of kit I’ve ever seen, but it does the job, there’s no kinks in the hoses, and there’s enough room to unscrew the can and still get to your oil dipstick. Success

I believe this should work as long as you don’t have the stock intake or s&b type intake, the second can (drivers side) would hit those intake boxes. I have the cornerstone intake so believe it would work. Anyone find any issues with running this dual set up from the hellcat challenger? Only $145 bucks for the second can, as I already have the billet tech single can installed.

This is F'in hilarious! I did the jury rig version of this without ever having seen this setup/video haha! Prolly half of us have aftermarket S&B/AFE intakes so this wont work without some engineering/bracketry and even then good luck unscrewing that 2nd can.

Is the crankcase venting split evenly between passenger and driver side? Are the commercial kits only available on passenger side due to esse of access?

Learning more about this beast and honestly thought I was trapping most of the oil via passenger side catch can. Did not realize the HC engine platform had dual crankcase returns.

Thx in advance.

Yes, the PCV system runs on both the passenger and driver side of the engine. Traditionally, the passenger side is the “dirty” side that catches more oil so that is the focus of pretty much every company. That doesn’t mean that the driver side cannot produce or catch any oil but it’s usually substantially less that it’s almost not worth doing. I ventured out on my own to explore whether that was true or not on my personal Rex and found that the driver side produces plenty of oil in my case, hence, the addition of a driver side can recently to my rig.

I ordered the second can dual set up…. it should work fine with the cornerstone and look cool too. Reading that folks are getting blow by on the driver side of the engine so can’t hurt and will be a good experiment for $145. I know some people say you don’t need a catch can… so screw it, add a second one. Haha.

@blaster9- Check me on this as the challenger drivers side (which the BT second can is for) has a slightly different set up then our TRX’s. Per the picture below, we remove the hose from the MUA system (I have the cornerstone intake but pretty much the same tube from intake to MUA) and intake tube. Then one side of the catch can goes to the intake and the other to the MUA. Secure both and then rock and roll.

Yea driver’s side can should go in-line right there per this pic. Actual can Doesnt have to be physically located right there but the can’s hose lines need to go in line in that location.

Cool, that’s what I thought but just wanted to check since you already installed one. Appreciate the illustration. Let’s see if we can catch some oil on the drivers side.

Thats the spirit haha! I wish i had installed my driver’s side can on day 1. I hate that shits been gettin into my intake from over there this whole dam time! Keep us posted on ur results. Remember, it definitely shouldn’t get nearly as much as the pass side so be patient. Once the media gets saturated, it should produce some

Thanks for the reminder, hope to catch some but nothing like the passenger side. It’s on order so should come sometime in the next week or two. I will report back and keep you posted.

@FULLTHROTTLERICK dual billet technology catch can installed. It came out well and looks awesome… let’s see how much I can catch.
