Official Driveline Clunk Service Repair

Other members posted this yesterday, but it's been buried in other threads. Since it affects so many trucks, I thought it deserved its own thread.
Thanks for the info.

I've got about 9800 mine and it does it all the time. I have a trip this weekend and then I'll take it in to the dealer and see what they say.

6300 and just started…

I took my truck in today for the clunk. They verified that it is covered under the latest star bulletin (ref the axle number series) and test drove to check it. They are telling me they will have the parts in about 2 weeks so we shall see.

Does only the written numbers of driveline have this issue?

Is it fixed on newly built trucks?
My truck was built 5/7 I have 2500 miles now. Ive been feeling it happen occasionally for about the last 500 miles.

My dealer said they have to get the numbers off the drive shaft before they order the kit. I have had the clunk on my 22 since about 3000K miles. I find it odd that this kit is only for certain trucks w certain driveshafts...Makes no sense to me...
@RamCares please advise

If you decide to go the ford grease route, will you do a write up, so others know what there up against if they want to not wait for months for the dealer to band aid it
I've used the Ford grease, and same issue came back about 3,000 miles later. So I'd put my money on trying the MOPAR grease next. Before I order on my own, I'm going to ask the dealer first. Price last week on the "kit" was about $3 on the MOPAR store, which sounded REALLY low... now price is about $90 for the kit on the MOPAR store. Guess they caught the price mistake.

i ordered that kit with the low price, but did get a notice it is on backorder......i shall see if my kit comes in before my dealer calls to let me know the kit they ordered for me shows up.

I just ordered at the lower price on Mopar Parts Giant, and got an email a few minutes later that they voided the sale due to back order with no timetable… Oct may be the official release. 🤷‍♂️

October is the official release. @Alienhead is a CDJR parts dept manager and confirmed that on another thread.

I am not the manager lol but thanks for the vote of confidence. I do "manage" The Direct Connect process unofficially. But the other information is correct. When pulling the status of the part, the message "CAMPAIGN PART NOT YET AVAILABLE, EXP - OCT 01, 2022" is presented to us. This can change and the parts become available sooner or it can take longer but that is the official word to us at this point.

Thanks for posting the info available to you. It is quite helpful to have some idea of what is going on.

Just spit-balling here, but I wonder if the driveshaft could be drilled and tapped for a grease zerk to make effectively a serviceable item. To do it properly, one would need to machine an inner groove to distribute the grease around the shaft, but that's not outside the realm of the possible.

This is based on my knowledge of FCA/Stellantis parts process. Some information will be painfully oversimplified and some may just be incorrect.

Do not worry about the inspection information. The bulletin is written like this to address concerns further into the future. All TRX trucks built up until this issue had a resolution will have been produced with part numbers 5311135AC, 53011135AD or 53011135AE these are all specked the same. They are just supercessions of the same part. They supersede for any number of reasons from a change in design, packaging, construction, manufacturer etc,,,, It would be reasonable to assume that 53011135AF will be produced with the lube installed for the production line. Replacement parts to the dealer would arrive pre-lubed or with a package of lube included. if your vehicle was produced with an AF alpha numeric then the solution to a "clunk" might be different.
