Octane booster vs premium fuel

Hey its yours, to each their own. Even if you don't understand compression ratios and resistance to knock, have you ever asked yourself what would be the manufacturers motivation to say its required? But you did make me laugh again as no challenger requires 93, just 91 or better. Good luck.
Their motivation is obvious. They are part of the global cabal of satanic pedo’s that are addicted to adrenochrome harvested from children. They all work together so Ram is making sure the gas companies make more.

I can tell you from experience and training that compression ratios are not related to the fuel grade. But as the challenger goes yes it was actually minimum of 91 that it called for. Trust me if i have issues with my truck from running regular you all will hear about it! 😆

I’m not a mechanic but I thought compression ratios really are related to required octane to avoid knock.

but yeah. Please do post if you have issues

For whatever it’s worth you should not run lower octane fuel. It’s ok to do with lower performance engines but not ok for high performance engines.you could use an octane booster but that has proven to be sketchy because not all octane boosters are the same. Some perform as they should and some don’t. You might be better off getting a small tank just for your TRX.
Which octane booster would you recommend if you had no other choice but to use 87?

I can’t make a recommendation because I don’t use them. I buy what the manufacture suggests when I get to the pump.

I thought you said some octane boosters perform as they should so I figured you might have had some experience with them. Just trying to figure out which one would work best if it wasn’t possible to get high octane gas at the pump.

Are you unable to buy 91? Honestly anyone that trusts octane booster to avoid knock probably gets what they deserve. If I couldn’t find premium I would get a 55gal container of 110 octane and mix it

It is not easily accessible where I live. I’m on an island where 87 is all that is available. I can get higher octane when on the mainland obviously. Never tried an octane booster, just thought maybe someone has had luck with it therefore saving me a trip across the bay. Sounds like i’ll be bringing many empty 5 gallon jugs in the back of my trx on that stupid ferry boat to gas up for a while

I use Torco religiously. However, if we had access to actual premium fuel up here, I would use that. My dealer sells the Torco "race fuel" and has zero problems with using it where warranty is concerned. We only have access to 90 up here and the computer pulls timing, making for tangible power loss.

Now, I'm no engine expert or fuel additive expert but the best 0-60 I could muster with my trackhawk was 3.8, over and over again. Added a 16oz can of torco and drove around for awhile so it could mix in the tank. Same weather, same place, I had no problem ripping off 3.5s over and over and over. I don't run it in the winter as there is no point due to road conditions and I just let the computer do it's thing. Come summer, it's in every tank and it really was a noticeable difference in not only feel, but also time.

All that said, if I had access to better fuel, I would absolutely go that route.

Your prob fine during winter using 87, yes the ecu will pull timing, but that may not be enough if the motor is lugged or under a lot of load, especially at summer temps.

you could probably get away with it, but your playing with fire on a boosted motor, plus you will have to tell everyone you have a 600hp truck and not 700 like everyone else with a trx.

You could possibly buy the 5 gal cans of VP101 and just mix one of those each fill up, i guess.
Or better yet switch over to e85 and crank up the boost!

I wonder what the mpg would be on e85. 5?

Spark knock aka detonation - octane matters, but as others have said, it's yours, have at it.

I can’t believe people spend this much on a truck, mainly for the motor, then want to put 87 in it. If it’s the only gas you can get, buy race gas and mix it. If dodge has denied warranty on stuff for the petty reasons I have read about, you can be sure they will deny warranty due to bad gas

Agreed, and I wouldn't blame them for denying the warranty claim.

I was going to suggest throwing a fuel tank in the Lobster boat and getting dock gas, but I think that is only 89, atleast aroung here.. Also not sure if you'll get it during the winter.

Yeah that’s something I could look into, thanks. But I think I got my answer by reading the replies. Just gives me another excuse to get off the island more often. Thanks again

I am picking my TRX up on Monday from Gene's. Over 6 month wait and finally able to get in one. Do you buy the booster directly from Gene's or from a local store? How much Torco do you use for each fill-up? Do you consistently use 90 and if so, where do you purchase it from? Sorry for the multiple questions but since it seems most else here do not understand that not all locations have access to 93 and want to lay smack for trying to find a way to make what is available work or run what they want. Thank you. Dan

lucky you:). Mines still in d status. Next time you get a cheese omelette at the diner you can let me know what you have worked out for fuel.

Will try once I get some feedback also. You at the diner often?
