Viton is generally weaker than HNBR (what the green O-Rings are) or Nitrile, meaning it will wear out and/or extrude faster. Both Nitrile and HNBR of pretty much any blend or durometer on the market will work great for these seals and pressures.Yep, i got smoked on it then haha. I always pull the trigger too fast & then do my research afterwards.
Turns out the ideal o-rings for our TBV are likely a different material & durometer then the Oreilly & harbor specials anyway. Assuming @ONEMEANTRX is on point with his size rec, these should be ideal so I've got em on the way: https://amzn.to/3IFaDaU
@OnTheReel what are your thoughts on those o-rings?
Pack of 100 o-rings coming so anyone who wants a few can send me 50c and a jawbreaker and i'll mail a few sets out![]()
You can buy 100, 7/16 x 9/16 x 1/16 Buna-N O-rings from McMaster-Carr for $2.87+ shipping.

Ok cool. Just making sure u didnt have some super lube i needed to have on handSame oil that goes in the trans.
I've gotta get a pass on overthinking this one lol. I've had every fluid other than fuel & rear axle fluid leak out of my truck in the past 6 months. I mean EVERYTHING from freon to tranny fluid, coolant (from HX and Rad), windshield washer fluid and everything in between so I'm HYPER sensitive to leaks & preventing them at the momentYou aren’t working on the space shuttle. If the o-rings you pick fit relatively well, aren’t made of complete garbage and don’t get destroyed during install, you will never have an issue at the temperatures and pressures seen in this application.
Well said. This is a pretty low bar for elastomer sealing. You aren’t working on the space shuttle. Lol nah, seals on cars are pretty easy, just lube with whatever you're sealing. Like when you do oil changes, just use the oil to lube the seal on the filter.Ok cool. Just making sure u didnt have some super lube i needed to have on hand![]()
Ill add to the list when i do my tranny flush (from male to female) i just picked up 2 boxes of fluid from dealer.
Looks the Same as the ones we ordered except we got 100-pack so we can screw up like 19x before we nail itFound these on Amazon. Ordered a pack...
Vinton O-Rings
Man, you ALWAYS want spare seals when you do stuff. I can't tell you how many times our guys have clipped O-Rings or other seals during install.Looks the Same as the ones we ordered except we got 100-pack so we can screw up like 19x before we nail it![]()

I would stay far, far away from PTFE O-Rings lol. While they have an incredible temperature range and near complete immunity to all chemicals and exposures, PTFE seals are VERY hard to get to work. They require near mirror finishes on the parts and almost perfect geometry to get them to work. For this application, I would stick with an NBR (nitrile or Buna-N) or HNBR.I started looking to "Over Engineer" (my weakness) found out they also have PTFE o rings at 2x the costs probably overkill. (-100F to 400F)

truck's going on it's 3rd week at the dealer now. Getting super pissed and antsy. I drive by it every day and most days it's sitting in the parking lot collecting bird shit. I SHOULD know in the next day or 2 whether they're replacing the tranny...@FULLTHROTTLERICK when is the step by step coming? I have been tied up ....but Know that you will make a quality video.
