Jeep 392

Why not a Durango hellcat? Obviously not a good choice for off reading but it’s far more streetable than a TRX or 392

Def another great option.

I tired man. the Boss lady is going through this Phase and wanted a Wrangler/Bronco. I tried to steer her to a LX600 or Durango Hellcat when they had one at Mark Dodge....

Durango is just tired looking to me....Im sure the HC is a monster tho..funny you mentioned your lady's phase...went thru that with mine after she drove my buddys 392 on some local roads...she had a ball and wanted one... Got her on the highway at 80 and she said ya no....I knew how that story was gonna end...Id love one tho

If there was a Ford dealer will to go below invoice like the discount CDRJ dealers. We probably would have gone that route to get a Bronco Raptor. but when they were asking 10-15K over MSRP....forget it.
Braptor market isn't what it used to be. Look around a little and be willing to search outside of Houston and you can find new, or near new discounted off MSRP. Dealers are sitting on inventory of them now, so they have to start negotiating. Most Houston dealers are just waiting for someone to pull the trigger on an impulse buy who walked in off the street.

Joe Meyers has some coming in that are listed $5K off MSRP on Autotrader. Call them and ask for Alejandro in sales. He seems to be a straight shooter. Almost bought a truck from him a couple of weeks ago, but it wasn't my first choice in color, so found one at another dealer.

Friendly Ford of Crosby has a blue one listed for $8K off MSRP.

I had one offered to me at $10,500 off. There are tons of braptors out there and they aren’t moving. I spend too much time watching the no markup ford Facebook group because I love the ranger raptor for some reason. It seems like every few posts someone is trying to unload a braptor.

I could never buy any of the Ford (and not just because they're Fords) Raptors because I hate those hideously awful orange interior and seat inlays. Cant believe RAM still hasnt come out with a midsize truck yet. When they do, they can add the Hurricane TTI6 variant mini-Rex.

I'll second @dubwingate on the Braptor recommendation. The 392 is a the best Jeep out there. However, it still has some Jeep traits that aren't as great. The ride is OK, but not great. Interior is actually a little cramped if you are a bigger guy. Speed is pretty impressive for an SUV, and the exhaust sounds great. The Braptor is still quick, rides considerably better, and you can throw 39" tire on it with no lift. I'd go Braptor all day over the 392, but if road trips were my concern then the TRX is the better option of the 3. Just more comfortable. Given the dismal fuel mileage of the V8s, the range of all 3 is probably similar.

Plus, you have to look pretty hard at the 392 to tell its something other than just a Rubicon Jeep. Braptor are pretty easy to distinguish even at a distance.

To throw a real curve ball at you, consider a 2 door Bronco with the manual transmission. I bought one last Fall and it is actually one of the vehicles I have enjoyed the most in recent years. I figured I would play around with it for a few months and then sell it. Now I wouldn't even consider selling it. It's just too easy/useful/enjoyable. I did a small lift, 37" tires, and threw a Sunrider top on it. It is convertible in seconds (flip two handles and lift it up), has a manual transmission, and the turbo 4 banger actually has pretty good pep even with 37" tires. Keep the TRX as your "sports car" and road trip vehicle, and enjoy the 2 door Bronco around town. They fit just about anywhere you want to park them, and are extremely easy to drive. The manual transmission has a really nice feel to it as well. Solid shifts, with a nice thunk into each gear.

Try following me offroad in that Braptor
🙃

The name Braptor reminds me of the word fugly. And in fact the Braptor is fugly.

I haven't taken a TRX or Braptor for serious off road runs, so it's tough for me to say which would perform better. I can tell you jumping railroad tracks in the Braptor is a bit smoother than the TRX. My suggestion was to keep the TRX and get a Braptor instead of a Jeep 392.

I traded my TRX for a 392. I would 100% do it again.

The TRX is way better for road trips and is faster but a GLE63s is even better.

99% of all my road trips these days are based around getting to trails and the rough and loud road ride is more than made up by what a Jeep does offroad. One of the biggest smiles, that I have had on my face, was one day when I went to an OHV park, earned 4 Badge of Honors, aired back up and raced and beat(0-60ish redlight run) a Mustang GT on the way back to the cabin. I don't think there are many vehicles that can claim that.

At this point, I would call the 392 my favorite out of the 25+ pretty nice sport vehicles that I have owned. My modded GLC63s would hold the 2nd place but it was as rough riding as the 392 and couldn't even go down a dirt driveway.
Great post. I own TRX and am considering 392. You still own one? Im worried about reliability on 392, I read crazy stories online. Also road trips. TRX is a great daily and fantastic for road trips / overlanding. Of course, zero fun downtown and parking. Let me know if your view has changed. thank you

We own one as well. It's has been great to us. Wife uses it 60% of the time. Only major issue was the front drive shaft failure which we upgraded with Adams. Over 40k miles on it.

Okay, great to hear. I really appreciate the time you spent on this. Have you guys done any road trips with it? Trying to figure out if it's livable for overland trips

We have driven up to Nashville a few times and across Florida. It does great but I honestly prefer the TRX for road trips. It just rides so much better on the highways and a ton more storage.

I drove our 392 with the 3 of us and all our gear 1400ish miles straight through to FL and the same back and it was plenty comfortable.

The wife has had two jeeps. We sold both because the ride. She drives a 25 z71 Tahoe now and it’s damn nice.

I grabbed a 24 Braptor new 22k under sticker a few months back. I’ve been daily driving it. The suspension is considerably better than jeep. I’ve not driven a 392 but this little sucker goes. I’m sure the 392 would beat it, but man the jeep ride isn’t like the bronco. I have my TRX still and its interior is much better than any of the raptors. We all know that but have to say it. The tech is better too. Oh and the hellcat is just f’n awesome lol.

I bought the Braptor to go to Baja. Its size and power are just a better fit imo. I got the TRX ready for Baja and just couldn’t bring myself to running it like i would have to.

My wife's daily driver for the last 2.5 years has been a Rubi 392. Her '23 had 16k and her '24 has about 4k so far. Only issue she had was with the SOT top on the '24. She loves it. She is averaging around 15 mpg with mostly city and rural driving. She does get on it often enough, but the cylinder deactivation seems to help balance it out. Longest road trip was about 250 miles. Comfortable for us, but we're used to Wranglers. Only negative I have is the smooth leather seats. They don't let your back and bottom breath at all. We usually take the TRX for road trips because of its creature comforts.

Bwahahahahaha... *deep breath* bwahahahaha yeah uh no, the Braptor does not "go" anything like a 392, it's dog ass slow compared to a 392, you chose poorly.

My wife loves the 392 JL. But we also have an Armada too that she drives as an alternative. We have taken a ~200 miles trip with 4 in the 392. Never again. I much prefer the TRX or any of our other vehicles (F150, Sequoia or Armada) for road trips.
