Help me decide 2024 TRX or 2024 GMC Hummer

I test drove a Hummer EV last week with a buddy of mine. The rattling & creaking roof would drive me crazy. It was neat, but I sure wouldn't give up the TRX for one. With all the problems that have been reported, it's not something I would have a lot of confidence in either. I wouldn't hesitate to drive my TRX across country tomorrow.

I just think with toooooo many world governments are all in on this and States like CommieFornia, IL, NY,NJ, etc. offering too many incentives...not only to consumers but also to energy companies....the powers that be will try and shoehorn it. Ideally, they should look at natural gas, Hydrogen Fuel Cell, Diesel Electric Hybrid, and more Gas Electric Hybrids. and let the free market play out.

Several years ago the EU spent quite a bit working with EU Auto Makers to build Diesel Electrics that could get 20-30% more miles w/o a lot less investment than full-on electric. However, EU killed the Diesel Electric Hybrid because of GreeeeenPieceOfShit's protests.... but really, They just needed to focus on particulate filters and higher-grade diesel.
Audi just told the EU they will NOT be all EV by 2035. The closer we get to the date, the less likely it will happen. The vast majority of people in the US simply do not want or need an EV.

The TRX is the best road tripper IMO. I have had fancier cars but the roominess of the TRX makes for healthy travel. Great visibility and passing confidence doesn't hurt either!

I’m going to play Devil’s with you for a second. Most of my close friends are all gearheads of some kind (as are most on the forum), but the vast majority of people I’ve met in my lifetime couldn’t tell me how many pistons were in their car. Those people are the prime candidates IMO for the EV revolution. They see cars as a way to get from A to B and nothing more. I think they represent a very large segment of the population (unfortunately) and thats why ive got a ton of $$ invested in the EV market. As much as i wont be an early adopter, i am counting and banking on the shoobies to plug it in plug it in lol.

Yea could u imagine stopping to charge for an hour-2 with 2-3 kids under 5?! That would be an immediate trade-in after family vaca was over.

I used to travel A LOT for work and even then, especially then, I would have been pissed wasting so much time to stop and charge.

Absolutely not. I fight for ever second on a 1200 mile drive. These unproductive people who are content to sit on their ass... I hope I never understand them, if I ever do, shoot me.

I get that viewpoint, here is the counterpoint. Right now, the only thing holding the EV house of cards together is GOV. When that runs out, it will collapse because it is sure not sales driven.

Even people who are CLUELESS about the internal operation of an ICE car (lets call them start BUTTON PUSHERS, cuz that is really all they know...push the button and it goes), still want the ICE car due to refueling convenience. Which is why 20% of EV buyers go back to ICE, regardless of their car knowledge.

BUTTON PUSHER comes home from work, kids, dogs, spouse, groceries, etc. are on their mind....they forget to plug the EV in and they go to bed. Same chaos the next morning...kids, breakfast, lunches for kids, spouse, groceries, dogs.....they walk into the garage and find their EV at 5% and they are STUCK for hours waiting for the recharge, maybe they cannot even get to work. With an ICE vehicle and 1/16th tank of gas, they drive to the gas station and in 10 minutes they have a full tank and good to go. So IMO the ICE vehicles appeal more to the BUTTON PUSHERS, because for them ICE is easy, simple and convenient. The LESS detail oriented and meticulous the person, the more of a PIA the EV will be. Cheers !

100% correct. If the greenies were pushing EVs as a second vehicle and the primary vehicle was ICE....then I would be more accepting of their viewpoint. But that is not the case, since they are pushing 100% replacement of ICE.

On Wed at 4:00am, I drove from Denver CO to Montrose CO (300 miles, 2 mountain passes) for my 9:00am meeting. Had the meeting, visited other three facilities, had lunch, headed back to Denver and I was home by 5:00pm with only one 10 minute stop for gas. If my only car was an EV, I would have been sitting for at least 4-5 hours for a recharge...IF i could find a charger and find one that worked. Which would have put me back home at 10:00 pm. No way !

I don’t know but the H2 Hummer is like so 2009 ago.

Dont care what the new H2 is going to have inside, outside or power train, it’s still a H2 that now you’re going to have to explain to friends that no…… this isn’t the old H2 this is the new H2…..

The Ram TRX requires no explanation as it speaks for itself no matter what year it’s built😎

I mean the H2 is kind of like which gender does it identify as and do we need to call it, Them or They? Don’t understand any of this Woke shit but this Hummer does seems to me like a square peg in a round hole.

I don’t have one friend that would think this new H2 is cool, not one!

So go buy the real deal and turn heads as you drive down a dirt, asphalt or any other road for that matte.

Good luck and I’m sure you’ll make a wise choice 😳

I’ve done that trip in an EV a few times. It’s a 30 minute stop each way in either Glenwood Springs or Grand Junction, depending on if you charge while sitting in Montrose. There’s no difficulty finding chargers along the route.

^^^exactly this^^^
The example I give (and it’s barely overstated) is that most of the general motoring public wouldn’t know the difference between a Camry and a McLaren P1 if it was next to them at a light.

Problem is, I was not sitting for more than 30 minutes and with the 2 passes and 300 mile.....a standard EV would be 10% rolling into Montrose. It would need much longer than 30 mins for the return 300 miles.

100%! A buddy of mine dropped by driving his dealerships Hummer EV. It was the biggest new car rattle trap I have ever ridden in. For the $$$ it should be SO much better.

One stop on the way there, one stop on the way back for 30 minutes or less each stop. I know this because I’ve done it multiple times. It absolutely does take longer than in an ICE vehicle but it’s not adding 4-5 hours to the trip.

I think the point is if Redeye wants to drive 300 miles to bumfucknowhere, he’d be hardpressed to find a level 2 charger that worked, wasnt occupied, and still didnt take 2hrs+ to get enough juice to drive back 300miles

Sure there are charging stations among highly travelled routes but no one has to worry about that crap in a Rex. Drive to BFE every day if ya want

BFE is not the place to take an EV but the route he described is not BFE.

We can all agree that a long drive in an EV adds time to the trip but we should also use facts when making the point.

Maybe I am missing something, but I disagree.
If we use a Tesla 3 or Chevy Bolt, range is about 300 / 250 miles respectively. Couple that with a 300 mile trip (I go through Fairplay 285 to 50) Kenosha Pass and Monarch Pass that will deplete the battery by an extra 20-30% or "oh shit" if its cold. I would not make it to Montrose without stopping for a recharge.

There is one Supercharger in Montrose. So I would have to park there (after being towed to town due to a dead battery), leave the car and have one of my clients pick me up and drive me to the other 3 site visits? That is assuming the Supercharger is working. OR....I can drive an ICE vehicle and not even have to think about all the silly little issues of an EV. Now we see why the sales figures are still in the single digits and why 20% get rid of them for the hassle factor!

Yup, besides needing the car for meetings in town. No time to sit and recharge a silly toy ! When I am working, I have zero desire for distractions.
