Has anyone replaced the black plastic fender trim pieces? **updated with pictures showing replacement**

Can someone please post the part numbers for all fenders? I’ve been putting off painting them to match since I had yet to see how these come off but this thread looks like it’ll be just what I need.

Received new rear flares from the dealer today with only 1 bag of 10 clips. Can someone confirm I will need 2 bags (1 bag per flare)?

You should be fine. When removing the old flares if you use a needle nose pliers you can reuse a bunch of the clips. The only ones I couldn't access were some that were above a rear support at the top of the flair. The circled area in the picture below are the clips I was unable to access from the backside to release them I had to just pull the old flare and snapped those clips.

You can see the ones that ended up snapping. I used the part number that was linked earlier in the thread and they were the incorrect part, but they work anyway. They are the white clips at the top.

For the part numbers they only say left and right. Which part number is for the driver side rear? Thanks in advance!

MOLDING. Wheel Opening Flare. Rear. Left.

I just replaced my right rear after getting in a gang fight with my gated community gate :). Here is what I did -
  1. Unscrew all the wheel well bolts that hold the flare to the liner (and mudflap if you have one like I do). 5/16th socket.
  2. Unscrew the 2 bolts that hold the wheel well liner in the back behind the wheel. Also 5/16th socket. I didnt remove the liner just loosened it up. Also did not remove the bottom trim piece as indicated in a post before mine for better access.
  3. Loosen up the liner so its not blocking your way to the back of the fender flare. I only did this for one side where I started taking the flare off.
  4. Start on the opposite side of the marker light. Take needle nose pliers and squeeze the pin from the inside and pull on the flare. You have to squeeze that pin hard to come out.
  5. Work your way up removing the fender flare. The top of the wheel well pins will be impossible to get out from behind. Just pull hard and the flare will pop out and possibly break some of those clips.
  6. Once you get to the marker light take a stubby philipps screwdriver and unhook the light thats held by 2 small screws. My fender flare was hanging on only by the pin below the market light at this point.
  7. Take out final pin and fender flare should come out.
  8. If you have any BROKEN pins still stuck in the body of the vehicle take those out with pliers.
  9. If you have any UNBROKEN pins still stuck in the body (I had like 7) take a small flat head screwdriver and place it under the clip on the side and press into the clip. You wont scratch the paint if the screwdriver is small enough + you want to put pressure on the clip itself not the body of vehicle. The clip will release unbroken from one side. Take the screwdriver to the other side of the clip (making sure that the side you just did does not pop back in) and the clip will come out like butter unbroken and ready to use.
  10. The dealer sells those clip packs (correct part above...not the white ones) in packs of 8. If you want to be ultra safe get 3 packs as there are 17 total clips you need on the new flare.
  11. Put the 17 clips on the new flare and prepare it for install
  12. If you have someone else help you its easiest or you can just pop one of the top of wheel well clips in first but make sure you re-install the marker light first. At first it wont sit flush against the new flare but you have to screw in both screws all the way and then it will be.
  13. Pop the rest of the fender flare in. This should take a few seconds.
  14. Re-align the wheel well liner and screw in the back 2 bolts first.
  15. Screw in rest of bolts between new flare and wheel well liner + mudflap if you have one.
Whole job took me maybe 90 mins, some of which was wasted on making another trip to the dealer as I realized I didnt have enough clips. Thankfully I have a Ram dealer less than a mile from my house.

Data point - If you are in Florida all of these flares are available next business day as they are all in stock at the Orlando Distribution Warehouse. MSRP is $67 but you can talk them down a few bucks usually.

Great write up!

I highly recommend getting a supply of clips and pins for anyone doing any kind of modding or DIY repair…

They are cheep but a huge PITA to get your hands on when needed. And from a Karma perspective, by virtue of having them on hand, you reduce the likelihood of broken clips by 90%+. ‘cause let’s be honest the universe likes to F with all of us.

I had to take this project on this weekend as well by replacing the rear drivers side fender flare due to getting into a fight with the garage while pulling in. So far the score is garage 1, TRX 0 🤣. A big thanks to everyone for posting on this thread, especially @PA42 and @amill94 for their detailed instructions and pictures. Everything spelled out was spot on and worked perfectly. Only thing I would add is I was able to get all clips out without breaking them (even the ones circled in red by @amill94). For me, the trick was once I got all the lower clips removed I was able to “peel” the old fender away from the body and used a long flat-head screwdriver to go between the body and the fender flare to put pressure on tab of the clips. This caused one side of the clip to release. Keep holding the fender away from the body, and repeat the step on the other side until the clip comes out completely. Do this for all 4 clips and you should be in good shape. Two tips: 1) VERY IMPORTANT: wrap your long flat-head screwdriver in something to protect your paint (e.g. Saran/plastic wrap, a rag, paper towel, whatever you think would work), and 2) I did this myself so holding the flare and attempting to wedge a screwdriver to reach the clip was a little challenging so it would probably be easier if you had a buddy holding the fender flare, while you went after the clips.

Whats the part number for the front passenger side fender molding? Came out of the store today and looks like someone hit mine now have a thick one line down it.

I think this is the one I need just not 100% sure

Underground parking at ski resort ate my fender liner. Swipe room key, garage door opens at top of 30 degree incline. Apparently there are also gate arms on each side and only one opens, and you enter on the left side all of which makes no sense. Can’t see the gates coming up the hill in a trx. Then said 7’ Clearance but there were signs and sprinklers that clearly were not 7’. Had to take down the signs to not scrape the paint off the roof or break the sunroof. Great way to start the trip but blizzard conditions outside are also a pain in the ass to load/unload the truck. But seriously, if there’s a roll up door, why gates as well? Glad to see it’s the cheapest thing on the truck!

Was anyone able to verify the clips needed for the REAR fenders? ive seen two part numbers 68257098AA and 68526185AA

Assuming my rears dont come with clips, Im trying to order the correct sized clips. thanks in advance

68526185AA are not the correct clips. I ordered those and they are too wide. You can make them work by clipping them, but the first part number you ordered looks correct by my quick google search.

Do the rear clips also work for the front driver side? I've got a scratch (from some off roading). I already have the new fender flare, but didn't think to order any clips.

Looks like these white things circled in red are what hold it in place, maybe? This is the side I'll be replacing.

The parts diagram doesn't show those white pop pieces unless they look different in the diagram.

If they aren't reusable from the old one does anyone know the part number?

Thanks,
Wondering if you got the part number for these pieces bro. I would also like to replace mine.
