Dram of the Day

That’s a really nice collection! Living in Kentucky I get to see lots of great bourbon collections and yours is very respectable!

That's high praise, thank you.

Most of it comes from my little strip mall liquor store, I buy a lot of stuff from them and send them many customers so they take care of me. A few are from Total Wine lotteries and some are gifts.

Wait a second... Now it IS your collection? ;)

I’m a aged rum snob hiding in Kentucky. Great rum is so hard to find, it’s just as good as a great bourbon my bourbon friends tell me (maybe they are just being nice). I typically get stocked up when friends come home from the islands, most isn’t available in the states. Here are some of my rum favorites. I also have so many bottles of bourbon going untouched due to COVID-19.

Aaahhh that is the difference between you and me... I follow the Mayan calendar... it makes more sense... Cheers

I can’t say I’m familiar with either of those and intrigued!

My buddy bought a barrel of 15 year old Knob Creek and I’m SUPPOSED to be getting a bottle soon. I’ll keep you posted.

P.S. Yes, I said barrel.

So this is a new release form whomever owns the Hirsh name these days. These things can be hit or miss but at around $40 it was worth giving it a try. I have to say that it's actually very good. Deep and complex flavor profile, especially for a regular proof offering. It's not the best thing you'll ever taste but compares very favorably to other bourbon at that price point and exceeds many other higher priced ones. I'm inserting it into my under $50/bottle daily rotation, and I'd recommend picking up a bottle and to try one for yourselves. It does have that potential of being readily available at the start but then become less so and more expensive.

Those are my favorite bottles. Those undiscovered gems that you enjoy for years, tell everyone about, and then finally have to pay considerably more for because of the popularity.

I lump Arbelour 12 Double Cask into this category. It was a delightful dram that I enjoyed for years and told others about that had a $50 price limit. It was $40 that was subtle, complex and lingered on the palate with notes of fig, vanilla and oak. Now I can hardly find it stocked in local stores and have to pay $65.

Off to get some Hirsh Horizon.

J

P.S. Please explain the glass you're drinking it from.

I'm kust jikking ... I'm good.

Must be sober when discovering the latest TRX news. (Don't tell RamCares about my right screen...) And don't mind the wires, my computer crashed and news parts coming Friday
