Dram of the Day

Second go around with this bourbon ... I still don't get it.

I'll give it kudos for being different, and if you like a splash of sambuca in your whiskey this is the one for you.

Otherwise definitely not worth the price imo.

Never heard the sambuca reference before..... but I chuckled out loud. Also don’t have any reference to Calumet. The good thing is you can save it for friends or foes. Cheers

View attachment 4938After a long drive in the snow to bring my new love home (and a stop at Liquor Barn in Louisville on the way) a well deserved dram. (Oh and I have no water at home because our pump froze.) cheers! 🥴
I would say you definitely deserve it. Cheers

4pm aka pandemic 6pm ...

Tried this for the first time ever. fantastic first impression, mix of subtle smokey hues, and at 117 will gently hand crank your Weiner warmer without being too harsh.

I like it. :)

Have you ever tried Jefferson’s ocean?
My Cadillac guy told me to try it

Looks good... I like the Smokey part..... age determines the rest.
Cheers

Iirc correctly there are several iterations of Jeffersons Ocean, all of them good, none memorable to me, most not worth what they charge for the gimmicky aspect of it. Kind of like Whistlepig 10/12 I've found myself ordering it at restaurants quite often, it tends to be the best available at places with limited offerings ... but there are so many better and more interesting whiskeys available for less at your local liquor store.

In many ways it is actually like the Cadillac of bourbons ... nice upgrade at the rental counter but not what you'd rush to buy for thrills. :)
I’m always looking to try new bourbons.
Can you recommend 2-3 good ones in the $50 range?

MSRP and what your local store will charge will differ quite a bit, but like I've mentioned before:

- Heaven Hill 7
- Wilderness Trail Straight Bourbon
- McKenna 10
- Rabbit Hole Boxergrail
- Hirsch The Horizon

That should get you started. :)

Btw, taste is obviously always subjective but I always found it helpful to research reviews and compare notes with https://www.breakingbourbon.com They're certainly more qualified than I am to dispense with advice.

I'm at the point now that I like to read their take after I've developed mine on any specific bottle, but for someone who's exploring this world they are a decent guide.

Sometimes you go to the Dark Side........Cheers

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole multi colored collection of uppers, downers, laughers, screamers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon.

Quoting my avatar ... I like where this is going. :)
