2021 TRX Catastrophic Engine Failure – Injector Stuck Open, Seeking Input

I agree, somewhat. Lots and lots of Trackhawks over 50,000 and many over 100,000 miles....
But 2021 specifically (with the injectors in question) was a very low production year for the TH and it was dead after that. DDHC also relatively low total production so far. And at least up here both of those are still more likely to be a fair weather toys than actual daily drivers like a TRX.

Fair points all around.

I have FICs in mine. Hard to say if aftermarket performance injectors will be better or worse. And we don’t even know exactly how these OEM injectors are failing but it’s concerning for sure.

Most of the time injectors get ignored much like shock absorbers. Catastrophic failures like this aside, they more typically “fade to failure” in a way that’s not always noticeable (although often apparent in oil analysis / fuel dilution levels). Myself and another engineering dork have recently done some A-B testing on some of the other port injected cars we have. And I’ll tell ya…even at lower mileage, using Top Tier fuel, additional additives like Red Line…we’ve still seen some surprising improvements in fuel dilution with new / clean injectors installed.

In light of that and these failures…if you really care and intend to keep your truck a long time, it wouldn’t be as silly as it sounds to buy a second set and rotate them in at intervals while the other set gets sent off for cleaning and testing.

Obviously shit can still happen no matter what but it should improve the odds. Only downside is the rearmost passenger side injector is a real bitch to get to on these. I did not enjoy that job.
Gotta get a top creeper to work on these trucks !
