UPDATE: NOT SOLVED: Anybody know what this mystery fluid is??

Yea at the top of the bell housing area - that bolt that was threaded in like 2 threads was cross-threaded 🤯
OK - if it was just cross-threaded and not driven in all the way, most likely the threads can just be cleaned up with a tap - no thread replacement needed. I hope you're looking for another dealership, or at the very least banning the previous tech who did this horrendous job from coming within 20 feet of your truck.

that tech isn't allowed anywhere near my truck. Not sure he might even be getting fired. Dealership has been better than good to me.

Mileage in/out was within 2-3 miles. I was right at 46997 or 46998 at drop off and it didn't turn 47k until i drove it home
My biggest fear is having to take my TRX into the dealership for work and having a few lot workers or mechanics beating it.

I just got my truck back from the dealer this week after being at it for a week. They had to replace my I/C pump. Then my service advisor calls me two days after I pick my truck up to tell me I owe them $200 deductible for the repair lol. And he called and texted my from his personal phone not the dealer and said he expects the $200 on Monday haha 🤣

Holy shit man. My truck is in for a rear main seal replacement and dash replacement right now. Original work estimate was 2-3 days (4/7), but they had to order a new rear main seal which came last friday. They finally completed the physical work, road tested it for 20 miles, and said there was no leak, it drove fine and the new dash looks amazing.

Then they email me and say about 15mi into the test it threw a code P0013 (PCM, VVT, sensor wire, idk), and they needed to keep it longer to look at this and try to resolve it. Never once threw codes like that before bringing it in.

Service Manager so far has been transparent and told me the exact mileage he drives, what the issues are, and who's working on it. Trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, I understand they're doing due diligence road testing for this type of work. I've been emailing and calling every day asking for updates and that it's unacceptable if this takes 2-3 weeks instead of 2-3 days. Shit like this makes me regret trading in my offroad Lexus GX build lol

Keep us posted on whether it gets fixed properly. Mine goes in next week for rear main #2. Only leaves a few days for them to get it done before our next trip....

Problem was a wire connector pin that apparently backed out and they had to fix.

They've gotten that taken care of and road tested, no thrown codes! Picking it up this afternoon, they even put a full tank of gas in it after I requested they fill it up a little after driving it 50+ miles. Despite how long they've taken, they've treated me well!

Hopefully they put in 91+ octane. Hate to be pessimistic, but I've seen other dealerships "give" someone a full tank, and its the cheapest octane possible, regardless of the vehicle.

Didn’t even think of that - let’s hope. Won’t run it too hard in the meantime. But maybe I’ll email the service manager back to confirm the gas used and have some CYA.

Sooo...they replaced the rear main seal a 2nd time and it's still leaking. Glad they ran it for 20 miles to check before bringing it back to me.

anyone have any ideas other than it must not have been installed correctly (again)??

It was such a slow leak before I almost wished I would've left it as it was!

Again!? They ran mine for around 50 miles and ran dye through as well to test. Wonder if its a faulty/damaged seal? They had to order a new one for me.

Maybe the seal housing? Unless its something with the oil pressure or leaking from another location and mimicking a rear main leak. No idea unfortunately, that's a bummer.

Sooo... i just heard they installed the 3rd seal and it's not leaking so i guess 3rd time's the charm I hope! Maybe they just got some sand/mud/dirt on it during install. There's a ton down there that i havent been able to get to i'm sure.

FINGERS CROSSED!! Picking up in an hour or 2 🤟 🤟

Did they add the oil? 🤣 Maybe it's not leaking cause they forgot it

So recently we had a new transmission put in and during the install, they told me the oil that was leaking out of the rear main seal area was actually transmission fluid and not engine oil. I tend to believe them because the fluid has stayed consistently dark despite us changing the oil at least two times while still having the persistent leak. I also attempted to use a very good engine oil stop leak on two occasions with zero luck (which makes sense if it was tranny fluid).

So far we only have about 400mi on the new transmission, but there has been no leaks yet. Fingers crossed!

Did they say if that was the cause of the failure or the toll from the 40s?

I also want to summarize what you wrote....you were leaking tranny fluid from the rear 🤣

Well if it is tranny fluid down there then we definitely lost quite a bit over the last 6-9 months so i'd say that + the fact that it was burnt to a crisp + 40s + how we baby it + Florida heat + everything else lolol

Oh and dam you hahaha :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
