Shark fin antena relocation

Did you disconnect the battery or just full send it? I'm paranoid about the curtain airbags :censored:
Nope, never disconnected the battery the only time i was nervous was changing my steering wheel other then that never disconnected the battery.

So what exactly does the sharkfin do for our TRXs? This is the one thing that is preventing me from putting it in my garage. Which kit (plastic or metal) do you recommend and could the local Ram service department do this for me you think? Any negatives to doing this? Need to get it in the garage come severe weather season in Texas, thanks.

It's unlikely you'll get the dealer to do this mod.

Weather is your #2 concern. Your truck getting stolen is #1. IMO, your truck shouldn't spend a single night outside of a garage in the entire state of Texas.

What would I need to add to the Amazon plug to make it 100% weather proof in your opinion?

Which one is the ABS one?
The abs i bought in amazon, the metal one i still have in my drawer in the garage the abs one is more sleek i havent had any issues of water or heat damaging it , i lived in alaska and moved to texas and i have no isues with it , the metal one of course is alot better but my truck has never slept out side i only started to have issues in the garage when i lifted the truck , but after deleting the antena or better saying relocating it, i have not had any issues parking in the garage, also the antena is for the gps and your regular antena they are both working fine still

Thanks, do I need to seal it with any extra gasket or anything or not? I take mine through the car wash daily here in Texas.

I lived in alaska and now in texas and my truck has never slept out side re locating the antena was because i wanted to be able to still park the truck in the garage after i had lifted the truck , i havent had any issues with the abs one , i have bothe abs and metal but the abs is more sleek i like that one better , our antena does two things gps and vehicle antena i did not want to fully delete it so when i removed it was looking for spots to pur it that was not the dash board well we have a lot of space where i put it at, the dealership will not do it for you.

I did use a little bit of seal just because am also skeptical when doing things to my truck, an extra steps to prevent things helps in the long run, and your welcome

What kind of seal exactly? Can I get it on Amazon?

Forgot to report back to you guys but I did this and it was super easy. The whole process was maybe 30 minutes if that, and most of that was fucking with the clips to drop part of the headliner. Thanks for the Idea OP

I’d like to get an update from those who have done this on the degree of waterproof this is? I’m mildly concerned the az sun would degrade any seal on the roof and result in water damage I won’t notice for a long time

I just bought a ram 2500 and i did the 2.5 inch lift and relocated that antena also , i have not had any issues of water coming in on either truck , I used the plastic one on my trx and the metal one on the 2500 just cause I had already bought it , but honestly i like better the plastic one .

Hello every one i havent posted here in a while, i have been looking around on how to relocate the antena so i can park my ram trx in my garage since i lifted the truck a bit more, i found a VW that deleted his antena and rear wiper got a hold of the person and he told me he bought the plug/cap in amazon i purchased one in metal and one in semi hard plastic to plug the hole on the top, i put the antena inside behind the 3rd brake light and i have been using it like this for 3 weeks now and i have no issues with the gps or the satellite radio just wanted to post it in case any one was looking into this and did not know how
How did you remove the 3rd brake light?

Anyone know where I can find a walkthrough for dropping the headliner?

I used this video. I'd also recommend opening the slider then you can just do everything from the bed once your headliner is dropped

I just bought a ram 2500 and lifted it, 2.5 , and added the clearance lights and relocated the shark fin antena since I did it on my TRX, and the process was the same but i did use the metal plug on the 2500, and I still like more the plastic one

Depending the light you have 2 or 4 screws remove those and pull on the light, unplug the wires behind it.
I did try that. Mine is a loaded level 2 with the camera and whatever else. I was told that the headliner would need to be dropped to remove the light.

I pulled the screws and the light was still on therE VERY tight. Didn’t want to brake anything so I put the screws back.
