Ravelco vs. IGLA

If you can cut and splice a wire, you can cut it again and re-splice. Ravelco isn't magic - quite the opposite. It's extremely LOW tech - meaning there's hardly anything to fail, go wrong, get defeated by some upgraded whiz-bang electronics, etc.

It's a kill switch - plain and simple. You want to uninstall it? Trace the wires from the plug to where they were spliced into the harness - cut the wires, strip them, splice them back together, and re-tape.

Or, just take the plug, put some super glue on it, stick it in the socket, and forget about it.
True true

Well then. Looks like I need to do some more research, I thought the install I looked through didn't include any.
yeah I thought the same, but was told by someone who installs them that it does require splicing into factory wiring, however, not to the extent as Ravelco.

IGLA requires splicing into factory wiring as well. at least, that is what I was informed
There is like 6 wires it uses. On top of being a digital kill switch with a pincode, you also can get the anti key cloning feature with it. Another perk is you can get an app on your phone to asct as a digital fob to skip the pincode process. Plus the anti car jacking feature. Oh and you can still keep your remote start. Love my IGLA give me peace of mind now.

can't support any product that is coming out of Russia or have any ties to it. Too many killings, rapes (woman and children) and war crimes happening in Ukraine.

Yeah, hopefully this SoCal installer understands the system and feels confident enough to install it after attempting on his own shop TRX first. I wouldn't be opposed to adding the Ravelco but I think I will start with the IGLA first and go from there if possible.

Posted in the Ravelco thread, but relevant here for context. I also looked at IGLA. I like the simplicity and convenience of the solution. I ended up going with Ravelco for 3 reasons. 1) There is no local IGLA installer. 2) I was concerned about leaving the control of my vehicle to a Russian-based company. Their leader is not stable. 3) The IGLA system defeats current tools that thieves use. It’s likely someone with enough motivation and skill will defeat IGLA through a defect in their system. CAN BUS is a message-based network and their solution is largely software. It can, and likely does, have defects that can be exploited.

I went with the Ravelco Anti-Theft device because it is simple in its design. I don't need fancy, I need a proven product that works. I don't anticipate thieves spending 2-3 hours trying to splice through your wiring to reverse the installation. If I have to lose remote start to gain the knowledge that my truck will be parked where I left it, I am willing to make the sacrifice.

Valid points. I appreciate that info.

If you leave ravelco plugged in your remote start features still work right? I would think if I had the ravelco I would only pull the plug while traveling in high risk areas. Our home town is small and we live in the country, so don’t plan on pulling the plug every time..

Yes, your remote start still works. You just have to leave the plug into the receptacle.

I pull my plug anytime i park somewhere that i plan on staying for over ten minutes. My house i pull it at night. It is not a big deal to me to go out. Plug it in, auto start my truck to warm it up and then go. Once i’m out and about i am not worried about the auto start. But the piece of mind i get from this product far outweighs any negative’s that others have said about it. In my opinion of course

Getting my IGLA installed as I type this message here in San Diego. Will let you all know how it goes! Maybe since they are down here, they could make a few more stops for others who are looking.

IGLA system installed! For those wondering, I am in San Diego and just had this installed.

Are there any dealers installing Ravelco in NorCal? And how much do they usually run?

Not sure if the folks here read through the Ravelco Thread but I posted there a link from a pirate website that teaches kids how to play with CAN BUS systems?
Nobody here thinks rhe Ravelco is great. It's dated, ugly.
Thing is all about bypassing time.
A CAN BUS can be flashed as fast as a key fob can be erased and a new one programmed.
Some here had their ride stolen with a key fob reprogrammed in just a few mins.
