Out of State purchases

I’m curious how others are handling their out of state purchases?

Are you having your truck shipped home?

Are you driving a trade in over, and hoping for a decent deal?

Are you flying nearby and Ubering to the dealer?
All 3 options have been used a bunch. It really depends on what benefits you most.

I didn't have a trade so I had mine shipped by @Jaron@StopwatchUSA from Ohio to California. Total cost would've only saved me $500 to drive it myself and three days of driving didn't sound ideal.

Shipping was easy and all it needed was a wash.

I live in Florida and purchased mine in Illinois and had it shipped to my house. I did not fly up and inspect it first although I considered doing that but my sales guy seemed very conscientious and I felt comfortable doing it that way. I did have them send me some detailed pictures of the truck prior to it being loaded on the transport truck to document condition as much as possible. Fortunately the truck showed up with no damage, no issues and no unexplained mileage. I also did this with my last Raptor and had no issues there either.

I really just wanted to have the truck home so I could break it in at my convenience and not have all that interstate time right off the bat. Wife wasn't interested in a road trip anyway so for me this worked out best.

Did you fly out and inspect it beforehand? I’m ~1,500 miles away so I’m trying to decide how I’m gonna do it. There was a poster on here a few weeks back (don’t recall name) that received their truck with a horrible smell that users suspect was either mold from sitting in the rail yard too long or an animal, etc. Either way… that got me concerned about eyes-on before I sign. Or did you trust the dealer enough to inspect it on your behalf?
I did not fly out to inspect. Everything was done remotely.

I purchased through Granger. They implemented some delivery changes after all/most of the trucks coming to their dealership were being dropped off with scratches. When my truck arrived, Granger notified me and sent pictures of the areas with damage that needed to be repaired. The detailer came and removed the scratches in about a week, and I coordinated the transport.

I also used U-Ship 😬 for finding transport. The one that was the cheapest also had high reviews. I took a chance, and it all worked out. The broker was very communicative throughout the process and answered any phone and texts I sent along the way regarding the status of the driver. $2,100 for shipment, and this was right before gas prices peaked. A one-way ticket to Des Moines at the time was around $450.00.

I flew from Seattle to Minneapolis (was a short notice booking and I only do non-stop flights (I hate layovers) so had to land fairly far from the dealer), rented a car, and drove to Pulasky, Wisconsin to get my truck (dropped rental off and uber'd over).

Then I drove her back to Seattle.

Got it at MSRP when that was unheard of. To me worth it. A fun trip, a $500 plane ticket and gas IMHO was better than paying a $10K mark-up.

My wife and I flew up to Performance in Delaware Ohio. Got a hotel next to the airport. The dealer had someone pick us up the next morning and drive us to the dealership. We signed everything and drove back 500 miles to NC. I hit 500 miles like 5 minutes from my house, I looked at my wife and said you ready for launch control 🤣🤣 Clicked off a 3.9 0-60 on our first go and we were laughing like little kids. It was a great experience and these trucks are incredible highway cruisers.

Had mine shipped to my house in Oregon from Granger. I absolutely love the truck and extremely happy with the deal I got.

Are the trade in negotiated and signed in the contract before you went to dealer?
I'm thinking of they cut the trade in price when I get there because obviously I have limited choice.

Many of the out-of-state sales were driven by limited production / availability, arbitrage with dealer premiums over MSRP on a brand new, premium truck platform. Going forward into 2023, will that be necessary? Sure is fun though to have that adventure. There are so many, lightly-used TRX available now it seems.

Ordered mine from back east and doing a courtesy delivery to Arizona. No charge shipping since it's coming straight from the factory to the Dodge dealer in Az.

What kind of deal did you make with a dealer to accept another dealers sale ?

I did notice the shipping from the factory to Iowa was the same as to Oregon. must just be a flat rate.

Was planning to drive my trade. Then I listed it for sale for shits sold it the same day for sticker that I paid way under 4 years ago. Flew in to Cincinnati, ubered to DC Paris. FYI no Uber wants that trip luckily one guy did and I tipped the shit out of him. Drove to Lexington stayed the night(I work nights had been up 27hrs ish when I hit the dealership) saw some stuff around there, drove to Overland Park KS stayed the night then home to Colorado. It's a good road trip minus Kansas. Fuck Kansas especially Quinter bunch of inbred fucks that seems to pee all over bathroom floors.

I ordered mine from Jack Phelan dealership in countryside Illinois and I live in San Diego.

Sent over my build list, they sent me back a price that was at MSRP. I put a deposit of $2000 down so that way I was priced locked and couldn’t get surprise four months down the road when I got my truck and it’s another $7000 which has happened to a lot of people.

Kept in contact with my dealer and Ram Chat
once a week so as not to piss them off but still get an update.

I got a call that the car was ready at the factory and they had a car transport company go pick it up and take it to the dealership. Keep in mind that that is the secret sauce of getting your truck in short order with Stone because if it has to be transported to a train yard and load on the train and then go to some other train yard unload it and then have it picked up you can add a month of the process

The dealer made arrangements with their holler that they’ve used over the years and I think it was something like $1800 to get my truck from countryside Illinois to San Diego California.

Docusigned signed all of the paperwork and wired them the money. I had my truck was built California emissions compliant so once it showed up I had to go get it smog and then weighed by a certified scale, off to AAA and a half hour later I’m out illegal!

I ordered the truck on December 1, 2021 and take possession of it April 1, 2022

I know the sales manager but they would not allow him to order it for $10k off like Koon's did.
I have to pay the fleet sales guy $250.00 to do the paperwork and go over the truck with me.
I believe the shipping is the same for the whole USA, just 1 set price on the window sticker. last I saw it was $1795.00.

Very interesting. did this have to be worked out between the dealers before ordering or can it be done afterwards?

Same here. I had Carmax appraise my truck. Then Koons matched it!
Same for me. I sent Dan Cummins offers for my Scat Pack, by Carvana, Vroom, and a local dealer. They matched, so I drove it to KY, and drive my truck back.

I purchased from Sam Leman in Illinois.
My son and I flew up, Scott (salesman) picked us up at the airport in my truck. I drove it back to the dealership and 30 or so minutes later we started our road trip.
We hit the Louisville Slugger factory and the corvette museum. Then we spent a day in Nashville eating great food and checked out the Parthenon replica.
Next we stopped in Alpharetta to visit with family, and then back home in Jacksonville. I would absolutely do it again the exact same way.

Had to be done before. Koons would not order it until speaking with them 1st.
