I’m curious how others are handling their out of state purchases?

Are you having your truck shipped home?

Are you driving a trade in over, and hoping for a decent deal?

Are you flying nearby and Ubering to the dealer?

I drove 3 states over in my trade 500 miles and drove my truck home.

drove mine back 2400 miles it was cheaper than shipping and I could do my own visual inspection also the drive home was fun and could break the truck in

I had it shipped. It would have been a 1900-mile drive back home. Others here had done the same drive before me, and they said there weren't any sites to see on the way back unless you took a significant detour. The carrier picked it up in about ten days and was here about five days later. No issues other than it needing a wash from the bug guts as it was at the front of the trailer. Going to sell my old truck privately after I get some things done on the TRX.

Sold trade locally, even with the tax savings trading in I was ahead doing it that way. One way flight, dealer picked me up, drove home.

Ditto on the bug guts, but mine was on the back of the trailer. The TRX's windshield actually sat higher than the tractor. I utilized StopWatch and they delivered on time and in great condition.

I sold my Challenger ahead of the deal and used the equity towards the down payment.

I drove down the day before with a flatbed trailer and hauled her home (~1400 miles round trip). Fuel + tolls was ~$650. Much cheaper than paying a shipper and I had her in my driveway with only 14 miles on the odometer.

Did you fly out and inspect it beforehand? I’m ~1,500 miles away so I’m trying to decide how I’m gonna do it. There was a poster on here a few weeks back (don’t recall name) that received their truck with a horrible smell that users suspect was either mold from sitting in the rail yard too long or an animal, etc. Either way… that got me concerned about eyes-on before I sign. Or did you trust the dealer enough to inspect it on your behalf?

You don't sign anything and pay for it until you've had a chance to inspect the truck.

I was going to do the fly and drive thing but ended up having both trucks shipped by Fisher Shipping. It was a great experience shipping with them and basically a wash in the price of flying and driving home yet I saved myself what would have been a 24 hour round trip. Phone rang and I walked outside to a brand new truck in my driveway with no miles and no rock chips.

I drove my trade in from FL to PA and drove the TRX back to FL but this was back in Feb when gas was a little better priced.

What difference does inspecting it make. your local dealer can fix any warranty issue just like the selling dealer .

Just check it out and submit the defect before you leave if it's something like shipping damage.
