Is hammering this thing down while it is within the 500 mile break-in period going to decrease the life of the motor?

Hey guys! I am about 300 miles into my break-in process for this truck but there’s an issue. I got this thing with 24 miles on the dash yesterday and my dealer told me that the truck is limited to 500 ish horsepower until 500 miles, when then the full amount of horsepower is unleashed. He never told me what Ram suggests on the break-in of a hellcat engine though. I just found out there’s a sheet to follow for the first few hundred miles and what you should/shouldn’t do. I have been flooring this truck pretty often to just see what 500 hp will do and i’ve been kinda showing off to family, so i’ve been hammering it then too. I asked my dealer if giving it full throttle in the break-in would hurt it, he said no. Still though, i’m a little concerned since there is a sheet telling you not to floor it within the first 500 miles.

Do any of you think I could have caused any damage to this vehicle or engine due to doing this? I have about 200 miles left of the break-in and I promise you all I’m not hammering it down then haha

EDIT** Hey guys, I just wanted to say thank you for all of the replies! It seems like many people are pretty much saying allow it to warm up a bit before hammering it down, which I do. I don’t automatically hit it from starting it up so that’s good. Still though, i’m going to drive it easier for the rest of the mileage! Feel free to put any more input you want! Thanks again!

no you're good brother.. just drive it and enjoy.

put in good gas, change the oil soon, and let her warm up before you get on the throttle... that prob most important
For sure, thank you! I don’t start the thing up and automatically get on it haha, I usually drive a good minute before I do. Thanks man

there are gentlemen on here much more informed on this engine but from what i've heard on here, it's fairly reliable.

I 100% wouldn't stress about it at all. Just don't go crazy and take it to the track or do 100 launches in a row lol

This is an age old argument. Like someone above said, I believe that letting the oil come up to temp before hammering it is the key. I also believe in breaking it in the way you want it to run. But, that's just my two cents.

agree

Doesn't break in document suggest from 300-500 miles "exercise full engine RPM range" and "shifting through gears manually with paddles"? I interpret FULL RPM RANGE as idle to redline. It would seem 300 is the GO mile as long as Molly Hatchet's Flirtin' With Disaster is playing through the HK!

Yeah. First I've heard. There's transport mode and, I believe, valet mode, but I've not seen an only 500 hp until 500 miles mode.
My wife test drove a Hellcat wide body a few months ago. When she returned the salesman asked her what she thought and she said go get the Red Key and I'll let you know. He told her he couldn't and she walked. Dumb Ass should have figured it out because she had already told me she was going to get it because it was the right color and a standard. :ROFLMAO:

Nothing magical happens at 500 miles. I spent years building Gen 3 hemi engines in the aftermarket industry. This is what you need to know.

1. Never drive aggressive on a cold engine
2. Heat cycles are your friend (Getting engine to temp, turn off. bring back to temp, turn off. etc.)
3. engine breaking introduces vacuum into the crank-case and supports ring seal. (Downshift coming to a stop to increase rpm's without using the gas pedal)
4. Engine oil brand isnt important, focus on good oil filters. (Buy the cheapest oil at the right weight and a great filter)
5. Dont be afraid to perform 300-1000-3000 mile oil changes in the beginning. (Another reason to use cheaper oil)

As rings seat against the cylinder walls, your are effectively shaving microscopic fragments of steel from the cylinder walls and its best that the oil filter catches this and the oil is changed at lower than normal intervals

I can’t even find my valet mode I’ve been wanting to use it when I have it in for maintenance service or anytime someone else might be in the seat without me

Haha yeah, they say give it a little more “pedal” after 300 miles. The bad thing is that i’ve been giving it lots of “pedal” from the very beginning of the break in stages (from 26 miles to 300) and that probably isn’t good which scared me :/

I hammered it on the way home with truck. 6 miles on it..I paid to play and only live once. No problems. As many have said, broke her in as I would drive her.
That makes me feel better and that’s kind of what I did haha. How many miles do you have now?

That makes sense! I’ll try to definitely get an oil change here soon! Thank you for your response and explanation!

All because of a red key haha. I wondered if the TRX was supposed to have seperate keys, especially since it’s more of a “normal person vehicle” than those powerful sports cars, even though this isn’t a normal truck. i’m going to assume there aren’t two different keys for different powers like on the red eye for a ram trx right? I just assume both key fobs are the same power (702)? Thank you for your reply by the way!
