Hydro Blue color match paint Pix

It's All done , I like it. 🔟 🏁🇺🇲
This project was a lot of work ! But in the end I don't mind putting the hours & Work into it when you can stand back and say Hell Yeah.
Thanks for all the Likes along the way.
It took 3 of us at my shop 146 hours , It's not a cheap project for sure . lol
Looks amazing. Love it.
Great job overall.

Question, while you were sanding the black metallic paint did you find any places were the clear was thin or the paint (black or blue) was loose and not properly adhered to the surface. Asking, because when I did the PPF on my truck I found an area of loose paint that stuck to the PPF and completely pulled away from the metal. It was on the driver side, lower front "Z" edge of rear door where the main color meets black metallic. It made me be very cautious with rest of the install.

So can anyone comment on what this costs to have done? I’ve seen several ask and I know the OP has his own shop, but there’s gotta be someone else who has done this. My truck is black so I just need the fender flares and both bumpers to be color matched.

Looks great!

I'm gonna go out on a limb, and guess you are the only one who color keyed your TRX, and left the door RAM logos on.

I've already bought the paint, and when it cools off a bit, I'm going to do the same, thinking I'm going to skip the rockers and possibly the flares... because I really don't want to repaint 50% of the truck. Will probably just have the rockers wrapped with a 3m product that matches the flares texture.

Any reason other than preference, that you didn't do the mirrors?

The mirrors, and the bumpers are the main parts I want color matched.

If you don’t mind sharing, what was your process for this whole job? I had five body shops turn me down for a similar project. They all said that the clear is too thin to wet-sand without re-clearing the vehicle afterwards. I’m curious what the actual average thickness is.

There is no way of telling how much clear is on the trucks. You can be sure that there is not much .
we wet sanded with 2500 then buffed .

Understood. That’s pretty much the same response I received from the body shops I spoke to. Would you mind sharing what technique you used for the wet sanding? Thank you for your time.

We wet sanded by hand with different hardness blocks , and be very careful around the edges. sand just enough to eliminate the peel.
sand with a X pattern then finish with circles with a soft block.
This is not for someone who has never been around paint work before. The buffing is a whole other system that takes experience to make it perfect and not burn through the clear.
Hope this helps .

Did you have to get both sides blended, or did they just tape off and spray the Black, My local body shop said they have to spray both sides to blend it not just paint the Black.

My guy just did a tape line to that he didn't have to blend all the way up the doors...its hardly noticeable if at all and we did plenty of spray outs to get a match
