Gear Selector Coating Chipping Off

Its not coating. Its a black piece of plastic like it should have been originally. Just got mine done like 2 months ago! Wondered the same thing until I saw the entire part was replaced with a molded black piece. Otherwise it would just start peeling and they'd be replacing them all again soon!
Thanks. Sounds like it is worth getting it warranted, if it was the same part I would have just tried scratching all the paint off mine. . .

Had mine replaced under warranty a few months ago

For those that have had it replaced under warranty, has it returned? Seems like something that's likely to return unless they've changed their coatings/vendors etc.? Mine is doing this as well and is getting worse....

The part has been replaced with a piece of black plastic. There is no coating at all now. It’s one molded piece. Lamination on that piece was dumb of them to do to begin with.

Pulled my shift knob off and put red wrap over it! Took a few tries but looks good now!

Another option is going with a new shift knob.
Barton makes one specifically for the TRX now, before we were using the chargers/challenger ones and retro fitting them.

I looked at one of those! Super Cool!

Looks great, does it have a push button? I like to rest my hand on the shifter and I’d be worried about putting it in neutral by accident.

Thank you. You push it down to change gears. I rest my hand on my shifter a lot too, old habit after having manuals forever, I never accidentally changed gears or put in neutral. It’s a pretty sweet set up.

That will look super sweet! It a mother to get the corners done well! Take a bit of heat and good cotton gloves! Don't burn yourself! I did! 🤣
that was what I thought on the corners. I want to see if there is any way to safely take the shifter apart to make it easier to wrap that part. Looks like the sides probably snap in. The fact that they are hard plastic though doesn’t give me confidence that they will easily pop off without snapping tabs

also does anybody know the thread pitch and length on the set screw. Unfortunately I stripped mine
I went to lowes today to get a new set screw but when I got there I noticed there is a spot on the end of the screw that is like a pin so I figured a regular screw wouldn’t work. Went to the dealer and a new one is 5 dollars and change. When I get it I will post the part # for future use.

The knob pops out pretty easy! I put a plastic pry tool behind it and it came right out!

you made my night with that and then it slowly turned to disappointment :ROFLMAO: The vinyl I bought looks good but it’s garbage…it doesn’t stick for shit. I gave up on the project with this vinyl, but maybe I will see if I can get some better 3M vinyl
