Foutz Full Skid Kits

After a few months of procrastination I finally got around to installing the plates .....had them powder coated first. Definitely not getting the cats for sure.
I like the powder coated look, but, I assume these aren't visible unless you're under the truck, and so my question becomes, do these need some corrosion protection? Or is the only reason to powder coat and/or paint them a personal preference thing? If they don't need corrosion protection, I'll probably mount them without painting.

They won't need any coating for protection. The raw aluminum will oxidize a bit and then be good to go. Painting or coating them is for looks only.

Correct there is no issue with corrosion other than a little surface stuff....I just thought it looked unfinished to me thus the powder coating....just me being anal....only cost $200

It could be. In their installed photos it only shows using the two holes so you should be fine just using those.

If you're looking to beef up the undercarriage of your TRX we've got skid plate kits from Foultz Motorsports ready to go. These are 3/16 thick aluminum and cover your transfer case as well as your transmission. Being aluminum, they won't add a ton of extra weight like steel plates would and they'll give you so much peace of mind knowing you won't be bashing your T-case or transmission on any rocks.

Do these work with aftermarket front bumpers (e.g. ADD)? @offroadalliance

So save the money on a cat strap and get your plates powder coated! Works for me 👍

Wondering how much this kit weighs?
More than stock....but more coverage than stock....and who cares.....drop in the bucket on this truck....and if it means anything I did it alone and wasn't too bad.

Do you remove any stock skids to install these? If not, it matters to me as I run at or above payload every family vacation and we're not even pulling our side by side.

You do remove the old ones....which are smaller and made of steel...replacements are aluminum (lighter than steel) but bigger coverage....if I had to guess 30-50 lbs more.....again....drop in the bucket....

Do you have install instructions?

None came with it....took a little time to hold up and get correctly placed but you can figure it out.....I looked at some photos and that helped. Personally I would not attempt it without a lift......if you must then I would get a second set of hands to help.

I'm super confused with the black piece. Do I need to remove the cross member bolts (17mm socket)? I also don't understand what the very small aluminum piece is for. I feel so dumb on this project lol.

That's the only tricky part.....you do have to loosen those up and I had to put something under the cross member to support it while making the change. I'm not a mechanic by no means .....but it took a little time to figure out the jigsaw puzzle. I found it best to work from back to front.

Looks great! How much extra weight does it add?
