Evil Manufacturing OR GJ Motorsports 3rd brake light

Here is a evil Mfg on my zr2. The thin antennae is for the radio and gps etc. the thick rod looking thing is actually a Ham dual band. It’s really really good. I was suprised at how well it worked. I’m sure if you were to nitpic about distances and trying to bounce off clouds etc sure… but for normal people it’s awesome.View attachment 23318
Until a tree branch takes it clean off and potentially rips your brake light out

I roll in the high desert. Not much likely hood of that.
but yea. I’m sure if it was doing treework a bendy antennae fits just the same.

Yes. I guess there are two mount types. A ham and a cb. This is the ham mount (if it’s called nmo then you know a lot more about that than I do)

I was worried about antennae ability and radio performance.
I was coming out of a doctor appointment one day and the sign on the door across from the office was the name of a big Ham radio store. It was their company headquarters.

I walked in, professing my ignorance and query about antennas (I had a cheap tall non flexible one and as you mentioned, trees etc)

the tech guy suggested I try the one in the picture. He said their tests returned amazing results. And it works on all the channels including if your unloved for gmrs frs etc.

it’s low profile which is nice and so far I haven’t found a reason to remove it for garages etc. Now it is a Colorado zr2 on 35’s that is lifted about 2 inches so not stupid tall.

Nmo is just the adaptor type, it's just a threaded post that you'd screw your antenna onto. I'd imagine you could attach ant type of antenna that's got the female end onto it. Nmo actually stands for new motorola lol but it's just a generic term, like people calling it kleenex instead of tissue paper

Any updates with the Evil and GJ? Anyone hear of a “camera” version yet?

Unfortunately, based on COVID material shortages and his current order backlog, no updated news on GJ Motorsports other than it is coming. Hopefully for Christmas.

Reviving an old thread with Evil's 3rd brake light w/camera offering & to see if anyone has any experience with it. Wondering if any drilling is required b/c that would be a no-go for me

Don’t forget about bulletproof diesel.

Like how that still maintains the factory stuff. Are you still happy with this setup? Are you able to see those little chase lights from behind pretty well? How do you have the ambers wired up (to outfitter or running)?

And What stubby antennas do you have there?

I think I'm leaning towards this one now. Just don't have time to install it. I like the design better than Evil or GJ.
yea but it's like almost $900 shipped and you have these puny little chase lights (compared to the Evil setup)

True, but I like the dual antenna set up and I alrrady have brighter rear facing lights under the bumper.

Radio for one and either a cell booster or GPS antenna depending on the situation. (Maybe you can interchange them) That's what I'm thinking anyway because eventually I'd like to go on one of those Baja trips.

yea that sounds like a good setup. I know literally 0 about anything to do with antennas so i was thinkin i'd only need the 1 for a radio of some kind. If i dont have cell svc, then that just means i've officially made it off the grid haha

I don't know shit either. But thought that would be a good set up for off the grid stuff. The cell boosters work ok, but if there is no signal then they have nothing to boost.
