E85

They said there isn’t any reliable flex fuel kits for the hellcat platform that they trust.

I was disappointed with hearing that but I’d beater be safe than sorry. If you have any kits to recommended me/us to look into please let me know.
Just surfing the Hellcat forum but looks like Barth uses a real time ethanol sensor in their flex fuel setup and Curt (Dusterhoff) uses the OEM wideband to trigger changes.

Satera Tuning has tons and tons of Hellcats on the road very reliably with their flex fuel package.

Fresh email from ZH.

There’s lots of folks that don’t have the familiarity or don’t want to touch it but there are several very respectable tuners that do. Dusterhoff will do flex fuel and has already on the TRX. Curt’s reputation is stellar. Another member on here that was first in the 10s on blower only and stock 35s runs his flex tune making ~1100 hp.

I wouldn't say ZH doesn't have familiarity and by judging from his excellent, timely communication; I wouldn't say the latter is true either.

I'm sure there are guys who have had good luck with the true flex fuel route, and I'm sure there are guys who haven't had the best of luck. There was a trackhawk here locally that recently popped - the owner said he was running a flex fuel tune at a meet a few weeks before... could be completely irrelevant.

I'm not sure of the correct answer, or if there is one.

I think the key is that if you are interested in flex fuel then use a tuner who is comfortable with it. But there are ways to do it that don’t have a downside. And regardless of tuner and fuel, these stock motors are all gonna pop at some point.

HP Tuners is working on their inferred solution, it's not where it needs to be currently. I'm going to just be doing dual maps for 93/E85 and use the Fuel It! Ethanol sensor via Bluetooth app.

Just paid $5.04 for 93 today, so I'll be glad to switch over in 3 weeks. That being said, corn prices are sky high and the trucks transporting them still run on Diesel so I don't expect to SAVE any money on E85, definitely don't go down the path if that is your expectation.

I love e85… just not the 6-7 MPG. Having less than 200 mile range per fill up would annoy me too much.

While the TRX is my DD...I'm 100% remote and have no commute. If I had a daily commute, I would not be doing this lol.

Setting up TRX for E85 as daily driver / MPG increase (no HP increase tune).
Correct me if I am wrong, but using E85 will INCREASE the amount of fuel burned by 30% + - and decrease your MPG, which would negate much of the fuel savings. It would also invalidate your Mopar warranty. Seems like a lot of work, risk and trouble, in response to short term fuel prices. IMO

E85 is not for saving money, I think most people would be sad if they did this conversion with that as their priority or reasoning.

Makes sense.

I had Tim Barth do a flex fuel setup on my 2020 Charger Hellcat. It was true flex-fuel, and the sensor had a bluetooth connection to an app on my phone where I could monitor the ethanol percentage. On 93, I was hitting 789 rwhp. Literally emptying the tank and filling up with E85, I was getting 883 rwhp. The car was a completely different animal on e85, even sounded completely different.

Additional mods were 2.78 pulley, ID1300 injectors, green belt, crank pin, 180 degree t-stat, JLT intake, and all tuning. All said and done, it was just short of $7k. And worth every damn penny!

***EDIT*** I also had the KB Boost A Pump

Very cool. Makes me wonder what I'll dyno. I'm at 760 on 93 on a 2.85 pulley, moving to E85, ID1300's and a 2.65. What's the drivetrain loss on the Charger? TRX has it bad at 17%.

Also, crazy seeing those numbers at just 7k invested. I have put a lot more into the TRX, some of it purely for sound. MF catback was like 2k. ARH headers/midpipe was 3k in parts, cams another close to 1k and a 15 hour labor time. Basically I feel like I left a LOT on the table sticking to 93 oct.

My zr1 makes 760whp on 93. Filling up with pump e85(e78-80 in my area) and I’m at 845whp. No other changes.
My 911 turbo makes 700awhp on 93 and 775awhp on pump e85.
Gas mileage sux but it’s worth it. Cost per mile is probably a little better with e85 but only because it was like $2.00 per gallon last summer. Not now though.
It smells delicious and the cars run like they’re on crack with e85.

Big increase on both vehicles with fueling as the only change. Based on the laundry list of supporting mods I have at this point I'm hoping to see good numbers.

Ive dabbled with E85 with my turbo cars, RS7/M6 gran coupe, they loved it but I ended tuning both on 103/110 racing fuel cause maxing out fuel pumps wasnt appealing. Id love to convert the TRX to it but Im waiting to see what Mopar releases for our platform. Id rather keep the warranty on this one.

So many benefits to E85. Cooler cylinder temps. E85 is great for torque too since you can run that timing up lower in the RPM. But all my previous cars got about 12-13 MPG on E85 which wasn’t too bad in terms of how often I was filling up. The TRX is going to be 6-7 MPG and while the $/mile might be about the same as 91 oct, the inconvenience of filling up when the closest e85 station is 20 min away just isn’t worth it to me. Also doubt the drivetrain will reliably take 1000 ft.lbs for too long. Traction sucks for longevity.

I wasn't originally but a new Sheetz with E85 opened about 5mi from my house, not out of the way for me at all. Prior to that it was about 10-12 miles and out of the area where I typically frequent. That plus the fact that my TRX only sees about 500-600mi per month at most.

You will enjoy it. As others have already stated, the power change on e85 is addicting for forced induction setups. The V on e85 with cutouts open and screaming that 6.2L to 7600 RPM is what makes that the only car I have ever missed.
