Do you baby your TRX?

2016 scat pack........drove it like it stole it,
2016 hellcat.....drove it like i stole it,
57 chevy BelAir........ drove it like normal since it was 90% stock and was not a performance car at all (think manual steering and drum brakes and no seat belts)
66 mustang coupe........drove it like i stole it
2018 Power Wagon......drive it like i stole it,
.2022 TRX (when it ever gets here) I WILL DRIVE IT LIKE I STOLE IT.

I only take mine out occasionally but when I do, I drive it like I stole it.
I have a Z71 Colorado that I use as a daily, and will admit, it's nice to drive a vehicle that I don't have to worry about as much.
Plus it keeps that TRX spark alive especially when I fire her up, since I don't experience it everyday.

I have been somewhat conservative but it is now getting PPF done so that will change my attitude

I DD mine 75% of the time and I make sure I hit 117 every single day on the rural straight away on the way home. Maintain it well, wipe the inside down once in awhile.....I drive with the rear slider open alot, so dirt, pollen, etc. gets on every surface inside. I love it!
My sunroof and rear slider are open 95% of the time I drive. Closed only when it’s raining.

To each his own, but I'm a "truck should be used and treated like a truck" kinda guy.

My 2500 has a huge dent in the back and one of those door to door "fix dent" guys came to my door and asked if I wanted to fix. I said, "it is a truck, it is meant to have dents in it."

The TRX is an outdoors trucks and I treat it as such. Consequently, I've taken it on the trails quite a bit, got it dirty, and it probably has some scratches on it. But I get enjoyment out of it.

So I drive her hard and put her away wet.

"Don't let your possessions possess you." Enjoy the hell out of it!
Funny. I was going to use the same gf analogy because it is an apt comparison.

Theres a difference between just not caring about damage and accepting that damage will happen eventually from using it as intended.

I drive mine hard on/off-road but my slobbery giant cane corso hasn’t been in it because I don’t feel like cleaning slobber off the roof.

It’s your truck. If you get maximum enjoyment from parking it in your garage and lovingly caressing it with microfiber gloves, go for it.

When you are on your deathbed are you really going to think you should’ve taken it easy on your toys for fear of damage and insurance increases?

Well put! Never know when a deer will run out in front of you. My buddy at work found out a few days ago......9k estimate. Airbags are a good bit of that cost.

Let me give you some perspective. Here is a video of me thrashing my last high performance purpose built car.

A month later I was driving home and got caught in a torrential downpour. My TC was off and I forgot to reach up and turn it back on. My car lifted up on the pavement and hydroplaned off the road, rotated in the grass, and I flew off a 5' embankment into trees. Totaling a 250K car. When I got out, unharmed, I thought two things. 1. THANK GOD I had an agreed value insurance policy, and 2. THANK GOD I drove it like a madman every day because now the car was gone, never to be enjoyed again. All the wear on tires, etc was a moot point. I had won.

Life is short. You should always look at vehicles like the TRX as short term enjoyment prospects. It could be stolen, wrecked, and plain ole break down at any moment. So get the most enjoyment out of it as you can. High performance vehicles are like a hot girlfriend, are you going to look at her or bang her, because I know what the NEXT guy intends. lol

Smiles per gallon baby.
Very well said!L
Well let’s see I’m over 20k in after market stuff. Drove from Pittsburgh to Myrtle Beach yesterday and stopped to wash it half way down and then as soon as I got to Myrtle. I’m currently parking it two high rises over because it’s a covered garage. What’s a little 150 yard walk to the condo? FYI I’ve owned a dozen trucks in my life and never was close to this OCD. I need counseling.
Lol, I need counseling too!!

Beat the bag out of it... hire mobile cleaning yups to come give the inside a once over every 3 months and clean the donut frosting and sprinkles from my free loading kids that destroy my backseat... gotta enjoy it... gotta YoLo.
lol, i've yelled at my kids god knows how many times for eating back there... gotta take it easy like you

Hell no, not even getting ceramic coated! lol

It’s not really necessary, I just like to get all the break in glitter and junk out of everything. Plus the T-case and front diff were under filled from the factory. Maybe 200 bucks in materials, tops. Cheap insurance. And a good way to get acquainted with the truck if you DIY.
I was looking to do an early oil change at 1,000 miles and then I heard a rumor that FCA sticks a special additive in the initial oil they put in the Hellcat Engines when they build it that is meant to secure that the truck has the best break in period possible and is meant to run through the engine until the factory recommended first oil change. Does anyone know if there any validity to this?

Change your oil if you want to. There is no recommended first oil change other than you must change your oil by 6,000 miles at the latest or 6 months. There’s plenty of guys / gals that have either changed the oil far earlier or had the dealer do it. There’s nothing in the manual that precludes you from doing an early oil change. If you ask anyone on here that’s mechanically inclined an early oil change is a good thing. I changed mine at around 1600 miles. I’ll probably do it again here real soon and than go to a more spread out 4,000 -5,000 mile interval.

Hey guys, had to ask this because I feel I am babying the crap out of this truck when I really shouldn't..... Being it's over 100k with such a nice interior I tend to be way over protective... to the point Im not fully enjoying it..... Anyone else going through this??.. I feel like just saying F it and start just enjoying it without worrying of it getting minor damage here and there... just haven't been able to get myself there yet!
Just remember, no matter how careful you are, damage happens. It’s good to care for your vehicles, I do the same. You do have to find a way you can enjoy it though while still being careful to an extent. Good luck with it!

I don’t believe so. If that was the case they would specifically advise against an early oil change. Honda for instance used (maybe still uses) a high moly break in oil, and they specifically say in the manual to leave it for the full interval.

I used to... until I unlocked launch control :devilish:.

Idk I daily mine and don't abuse it or anything, but I also bought it to have fun. I just try not to think about how much a TRX costs lol.
Thing I'm most careful with is the alcantara. I have a nice leather steering wheel cover (think the steering wheel is too thin anyways + the alcantara on top kind of sucks if you're just cruising with one hand) and my leather wipes came in real handy when I dropped a jalapeno and some bacon on the armrest lol.

I've actually been driving her more than I should've lol. Just got my gas card bill and I think I've never gone through this much gas in a month, ever. That's like 250 ish gallons

I don't baby mine. I do wear gloves, shoe protectors, and a hair net. I make the gf sit in the back seat on a towel while wearing a bee suit. I only drive it on nice days and after midnight to avoid rock chips. Other than that I drive it totally normal.

Since the wife isn't on here, I'll be honest. I'm a little over $130K so far which is a truck record for me. I'm beating the hell out of this thing. My average MPG is 7.4 right now but it was at 7.2 and I'm almost all highway. With the Escort Laser shifters plus Waze, you really don't worry about 5-0. This thing is under warranty so beat the crap out of it.

As someone said, we measure smiles per gallon instead of MPG.

Very nice 👍 I average around 8-10 with my 19 hemi. I do about 80% city driving and drive it hard. I can’t wait to see What I get with the Rex!!!!
