Disappointed with Borla

What is it about the Borla that you didn't like? I'm between the Borla and AWE. I've watched as many videos as I can find but it's hard to get a good idea of how they sound in real life based on videos. I'm looking for a deep tone with as little rasp as possible at higher RPMs.
For a deep tone you'll want AWE with the H pipe, ping @NickKNSF for the best deal and quick service. My biggest problem with Borla is that they have you reuse part of the stock exhaust, when Im spending that much $ I expect a fully custom designed set up.

Its loud and raspy. Zero refinement. Other Borla systems Ive had I really enjoyed, not this one. Go AWE and be done or GTHaus

So lets talk solution to this Borla...I purchased one a year ago and have been mostly happy, I have had to get it tightened a few times as the fit is not perfect. That have been a couple of vibrations and it may need to get welded the shop says now.

I mostly like it, but like others have said the morning cold starts are quite loud and window shaking.

1. Would my best bet be to replace this with a new quieter system. What systmes would you recommend that sound good but are not so loud.

2. Are there any MODS that can be done to the Borla system to tone it down a bit, I'm not an exhaust guy so not sure exactly what I am asking. Basically, can we add a muffler or resonator? I know this sounds counter intuitive as we cut them off to install Borla.

All great questions. Im most likely replacing it with a system that has high quality mufflers like the AWE or GTHaus.

Another option is buying Corsa 3" packed resonators and installing them right before the axle back part. This should reduce the rasp, clean up the sound and quiet it down quite a bit. This seems like the most affordable route and is certainly on my mind as something to do. But adding $300 in material to a system I dont love is stopping me. Rather have something I love right off the the bat then gambling with adding resonators.

So, are we saying that the Borla is the loudest outside of muffler delete, but that the sound is too raspy? And, that AWE is more refined but a bit quieter?
I am looking for something loud, but not as loud as muffler delete.

I don't think the Borla is any louder but it is raspier, Corsa Xtreme might be a hair louder but it's still another X pipe though more refined than the Borla.

As the title states I am HUGELY disappointed with the Borla sound. Ive had 3 TRXs, first one with muffler delete, second with nothing and third one I installed a Borla I bought during my 2nd TRX. First off, their instructions say to cut 5" from factory resonator on Drivers side, which is too much so the tip is sunk in by an inch. Second, the sound is downright awful. I honestly thought a muffler delete was too unrefined, then I heard this in person. I called Borla to see if they recommend any of their muffler to put in line and was told no we cant recommend anything. Ive considered adding Corsa's packed 3" resonators as I think I can squeeze them in there but throwing another $300 at the system seems like a waste.

Needless to say I threw it up on FB marketplace for cheap as Im wanting to move to AWE's system which from videos, sounds WAY more refined and less rasp. I realize sound is highly subjective but the fact they put the Borla name on this is pretty astonishing. Yes, Ive checked for leaks and retightened everything after a few heat cycles.

Anyone feel the same way I do? Anyone want a full Borla set up for cheap?!?!
My AWE exhaust if you haven’t already heard it, it calms down by about a 1/3 of the sound after cold start is over, about 30 seconds or so…..

I see you pushed your tips out past the bumper cutouts, I put mine flush at the edge of the holes. Just a comment on the adjustability, not a criticism. 🍻

Do you have headers on your truck with the awe?
I was thinking about that system but not sure how it would sound my my ARH headers. I know alot of the raspiness went away after i installed the headers, but wonder what it would sound like with the h pipe

Nope, no headers. Just the sweet, deep burble of the H piped AWE 0FG exhaust.

Hmm...i wish they had just an h pipe to replace the x pipe. Might just have to make one and see how it sounds

@MRT Performance did come out with a replacement H Pipe for the 392, maybe they'll work on one for the TRX as well?

Id buy one. I remember the difference in sound and tone between my 5.0 mustang with long tube headers, x pipe with high flow cats, and no mufflers vs a buddies with the same setup but h pipe. His sounded deeper but mine was louder at wot

I love my AWE exhaust. Installed it myself. Pretty straight forward. I love the sound. Don’t mind my coworker in the background giddy as fuck lol. I can send my clips of it if you want. I have before and after as well

The stock TRX exhaust does not have a lot going on in regards to restriction of exhaust flow or sound management. The resonators in the mid section of the stock exhaust are doing all of the work. For this reason we chose to develop the Extreme Mid Pipe for the TRX instead of a larger cat back system. This deletes the resonators and leaves the rest of the straight piped factory system in place. No need for TRX owners to drop tons of money on a larger system replacing tube for tube with no major benefit in sound or performance. The exterior sound profile of the Extreme Mid Pipe is for lack of a better words EXTREME. The Extreme label is reserved only for MRT's most aggressive and loudest exhaust systems and this TRX system is no different. The interior exhaust presence is satisfyingly intensified without being overbearing. The Extreme Mid Pipe is one of our best of both world options. Loud and aggressive on start up and WOT but it will mind it's manners if you go easy on the gas pedal.

If I’m looking calm the BORLA Attak would this be a good option. Could this be added to the BORLA or is there a better option to “turn it down a bit”.
