Best looking side steps for the TRX

Bedliner and will do the same again. 3 years and 70k miles with zero issues
.. my friend has the powder coated ones on his tundra and had them replaced 2x because they’d get a stone chip through the powder and it would start rusting, after the second time replacing he stopped and is just living with it.
plus the bedliner is more “grippy” which is helpful in the snow/slush where I’m at.
No rust after 70k miles is a huge bonus.

But unfortunately don't do anything for rock chip protection like the off-road steps do.
Off road steps? Is that am oxymoron? Rock rails are for off road, steps are not. PPF and Ceramic coating is for rock chip protection, steps are not. Anywho.

Ok like dirt driveway type offroading :p

Go fast jumping/baja dirt driving at 80+ is tough on paint.
You guys are totally correct there is rock crawling/trail driving and go fast baja style driving. If you are going fast in the dirt, sand and gravel you will quickly cut through PPF on the side of the truck and the wider style side steps will prevent almost all of the rocks from hitting the cab and bed sides.

The rock rails on the other hand wont stop the paint issues and are unfortunately only mounted to the body and not the frame. I would think if you came down and hit hard enough on the rock rails with the 6000+lbs of TRX you could do some rocker damage also.
Both have there place on the trucks in different kinds of off-roading.

There are some pictures floating around online of Raptors that pulled off the factory side steps and have the bedsides down to bare metal due to the sand blasting off the front tires hitting the wide rear bed sides. (from fast dirt driving) The side steps coupled with some type of splash guard or mud flap will greatly reduce this damage.

I just ordered a set of Rocky Road rock sliders/steps for my TRX. They seem to be a good compromise between step and slider. They should protect the paint at least. And they have a picture of a Ram truck being lifted by a fork lift under the rock slider/step with no damage being done to the slider/step, or truck. We'll see how they are when they show up.

They look good, I just wish it didn't come with the step that extended to the bed.

I was looking at power fold, but I also want the protection that static steps provide (mainly against door dings, but also road debris).

I'm looking at the APS Black Drop Steps

or the RBP RX-3

I went with the mopar power steps. No issues whatsoever in the cold weather. Wife gets in and out easily. I can leave them open via the app on the Uconnect screen when I’m in a parking lot for shopping cart protection.
Although I’ve never looked at the step height and shopping cart height to see if it would even stop one. Love these steps though.

These are the steps I have on my prerunner. They are frame mounted and stick out wide enough to protect the body from rocks when hammering fast. And wide enough for my crippled ass to get in and out of.

Now I have the mopar offroad steps or whatever the wider ones are called. Now they are not frame mounted but don’t flex when I’m stepping on them and my wife is stepping on them putting the kid in the back car seat.

Two things I really like about the mopar steps: 1) forged aluminum. They are light as fuck and won’t rust.
2) the drain/dust slots are pointing “backwards”. I thought this was weird until my first dirt road. The dust does not get sucked up and onto the truck, they actually make a low pressure on top and the air actually gets sucked down. Not a lot, but if it were reversed the dirt and dust would be a lot worse.

https://www.rocky-road.com/ram-trx-rock-sliders.html I've been looking at these ones with a kick out. Had the AMP powered steps on my CTD 2500 and they were great, the new HD version is also tempting for usability but my plans with the TRX are Raptor Runs, etc. (and pending underbody protection).

Fred you need to get Lamont to clean that shit up 🤣

I‘ve had my truck with the Mopar Rock Rails for almost 8 months now. The rock rail works pretty good for a step. I recently had the step sprayed with Line-X to add a little protection and a little more grip. I’m really happy with them.

I like the look of the line-x on the on the black portions and fender flares. Can you post some more pictures, or have you posted them in another thread already? Also what did it cost?
