Thank you for this info. This was interesting and may have been what scared the installers. Original bill was heavy handed but amended bill simply increased fines.

New York Issues Misleading Message as Exhaust Noise Legislation Takes Effect
In advance of a change in New York’s exhaust noise law taking effect April 1, a notification letter was sent to automotive retailers and vehicle inspectors.www.autobodynews.com
Unless I missed something, the article states cutouts are already illegal in NY:Thank you for this info.
My shop owner is definitely misled as he did say has turned down lots of Borla Installs on cars and TRXs lately.
I bet more mods will be banned until all that is allowed are EVs.
You are correct. I didnt know of the actual legislation and suspected they were legal being they still can be shipped to NY without any issues. A few months ago I asked my shop and they said would install the cutouts. Yesterday they told me as of the 1st they can no longer do it, reason of the thread getting that topic.Unless I missed something, the article states cutouts are already illegal:
The new law doesn’t change the state’s existing exhaust noise laws, which require every motor vehicle to be equipped with a muffler in working condition and prohibits the installation of bypasses, cutouts or similar devices.
CA barely passes a law NY gets envious and follows suit right away. Its a fight for who can be the biggest ahole state. I read NYC buildings will soon ban gas stoves, all will need to be electric.Nonsense starts in CA and NY......then it migrates to the flyover states!
Voters have to wise up, or it will continue.
Hey, those corn starch forks and paper straws are SUPER important!CA barely passes a law NY gets envious and follows suit right away. Its a fight for who can be the biggest ahole state. I read NYC buildings will soon ban gas stoves, all will need to be electric.
That city is structurally falling apart with shitty bridges, arcaic underground and possibly the worst roads in the country but they only focus on nonsense.
Try to go from NYC to Long Island and observe the condition of the roads... feels like you are in a 3rd world country. If you drive a car, make sure that spare tire is ready to go.
I deal with underground drilling contractors, some of the water pipes under the city are still made of wood, dated from 1800's. There's no way to replace them due to how unmarked and chaotic underground utilities are there. That's why once in a while someone tries to dig a small trench for cable install and a corner blows up because it struck a gas line.
These stupid laws are just a way for government to seem like they are interested in improving quality of life while it's just a front and everything else is shit deep.
Hope I dont close this thread with too much politics
. . .one of a multitude of reasons why I'm glad I live in the great state of Texas. So Ive swapped my stock mufflers by more aggressive ones a few months ago and was pretty satisfied until I rode on my buddy's TRX with the cutouts open this weekend.
Ordered QTPs cutouts and the wireless remote although I was hoping to integrate somehow the open/close on the AUX switches on the dash.
Well my exhaust shop turned the job down saying they are no longer allowed to install any "louder than stock" muffler on any car as of April 1st here in NY...I thought he was joking but could tell his dissapointment was real.
So I rode to another exhaust shop of choice here on Long Island and was also turned down with same reason...goodbye Borla jobs
The owner told me these NYC nerds now will start installing noise sensors & cameras on traffic lights/intersections and start fining people soon too... if one does install any louder than stock exhaust, the vehicle will not pass state inspection...wtf
I would also think a stock TRX exhaust would not pass the noise test if these communists start putting sensors everywhere.
Has anyone been told the same here in NY?
Lol thanks. I'm as far as it gets to liberal policies, and think most of Long Island is as well. NYC is the big bad. . .one of a multitude of reasons why I'm glad I live in the great state of Texas.
You're welcome to move down here - just don't bring any of the liberal BS politics with you brother.
This is one of the more fascinating (and frustrating issues for me). The road conditions around me suck here too (MS, FL, TX, LA, TN). There are plenty of taxes paid here just like up in the NY area. And instead of fixing them, they put these stupid asphault patches in that shed rocks when it rains that everything kicks up. I don't understand why the government can't take the money they collect and actually do what they said they would do. Its asinine. They just pass more laws so that they have an option to entrap you if they want ... tint, noise, etc, etc.Try to go from NYC to Long Island and observe the condition of the roads... feels like you are in a 3rd world country. If you drive a car, make sure that spare tire is ready to go.
Embry Riddle? That's about like having missles fly over your house daily. I try to avoid flying near them near ER students/pilots whenever possible.I live directly in the path of an airport where Embry Riddle students are constantly flying prop planes. Someone wants to bitch about my dog barking or the trx cold start.. I bring up the air traffic and harleys in the neighborhood. And they look at me like "damn, he's right"
IDK, Chitcago has the strictest gun laws and has more gun violence than anyone.NYC, NYS is the only state that has more criminals with guns than law abiding citizens![]()
Well I do remember that post and actually I thought of that video when my installer told me "no more as of the 1st". The first thing that came to my mind was "WTF they moved quick on that shit".The whole law is written by complete morons and filled with loop holes:

New York's Loud Exhaust Ban Is A Misguided, Poorly Written Law - Jalopnik
Dear Governor Hochul and Senator Gounardes: I get it. No one likes to hear a straight-piped G35 (it’s always the Vee Cue Boys) banging off the rev limiter at three in the morning. No one wants to be subjected to the grating, trumpet-like echo of those three and a half liters, bouncing its way...jalopnik.com
I had shared a clip of the day they passed the bill in one of my videos about some Karen complaining about being assaulted by a loud exhaust and how it made her push this law through.
Does anyone know if out of state people can get ticketed for this.
Ironically the Lt. gov that was part of the bill just got indicted for corruption and fraud 3 hours ago.....but its ok.....our exhausts were higher priority.Well I do remember that post and actually I thought of that video when my installer told me "no more as of the 1st". The first thing that came to my mind was "WTF they moved quick on that shit".
I clearly remember that Karen giving a shaky speech almost like she had been robbed at gun point by an exhaust muffler.
Gotta love dems and theatrics, no wonder why they love the Oscars so much.
