Anyone regret choosing black?

I love black vehicles but i don’t have the time for them. With my white vehicles i regularly take them through automatic car washes with no worries. I wouldn’t even consider that in a darker vehicle.

Nah, I wrapped mine in Dragon Fire Red.

Thanks all for the sanity check!

I know that many are choosing to invest significant $ in ceramic coatings, PPF, etc.
But for the guy who says I’m already spending 100 grand and think I’m gonna drive it as is…run it thru the carwash, take good care of it but not go overboard with TLC…is black a sensible choice?
Granite is the fastest though if you care about that... 🍻

I think black on black is cool but at the same time black is a nightmare to keep clean and scratch free. Id honestly only go black if you are going to have the entire thing covered in PPF film. Another thing to mention is that when hand washing, black is an absolute nightmare unless you do it early in the am or around dusk because it absorbs so much sunlight and the water will dry very quickly on the truck leaving you with water spots. I had a white car before and it was never an issue and now with red its like a race against time to get it washed and dried before getting water spots even with ppf on most of the truck and ceramic on the entire thing.

Also just a personal opinion, if youre buying a crazy 700hp $100k truck I want it to stand out a bit so for me the only colors I was looking between were blue and red and after seeing a ton of them at Chapman when picking it up, I am really happy I went with red instead of black.

My last 3 vehicles were black. I said I wasn't going to get a black truck until I saw the black TRX and then bought it.

This is the first vehicle that has to live outside and so far, it isn't bad.

I never do any coatings or PPF on my cars but I may consider it on this one.

There is a detail shop a couple of miles from me that I go to every other week. They do a hand wash and wipe down the inside for $35 and they do a great job. It's hard to beat that deal.

About every month I apply
Optimum Car Wax Spray and my cars always look good.

Yeah, black isn't all that bad to take care of. Yes, you should seal it or ceramic coat it. Yes, you have to wash it regularly to keep it looking nice, and an automated car wash, if not touchless, is going to leave scratches. But, man up and hand wash or go to a touchless. Black on black is bad assed.

I use ONR rinseless wash for maintenance washes, and it's super fast. Use good quality microfibers and keep them clean and you're golden. If my truck is really dirty, I'll do a water wash with a CR Spotless type deionizer. The deionizer is so effective at preventing water spots, I could almost not even dry it after a wash. My other car is also black on black and now 5 years old. It's had the same treatment and has no swirl marks.

When I was younger, yes LOVED black cars and trucks.......hand polished them, so there were ZERO swirls in the sunlight. Even drying them with a clean shammy would cause small scratches and would need another hand polish (wax on, wax off Danielsan).

Got to the point where I wanted something a bit more "user friendly", switched to red, white, green (sublime) just to keep that part of the maintenance down to a dull roar. Black is fine, just know what you are getting into!

There are lots of things I regret... Voting for Ross Poirot, Not pulling out more in high school, That green linen zoot suit I wore throughout the 90's... but NOTHING about my truck is a regret. I'd ride with pride if it were mary kay pink. That being said, mine is silver. The cleanest looking of the colors.

In short you have to enjoy detailing your ride to get a black truck unless you’re ok with swirl marks.

I ordered granite but it was tough not choosing black......then i remembered my last black vehicle and then the choice was easy :)
I have had multiple black trucks in the past too. Granite looks great, dirty or clean. Mine is always dirty on the outside. I would absolutely choose this color again.

probably everyone in a very hot and sunny state may have some regrets lol!

No regrets here. As mentioned earlier, I wouldn't plan on taking your truck through an automated car wash though. My old Raptor wouldn't fit in any of the automated car washes around here and the TRX is significantly wider. The tires are also often too wide for the tracks in those car washes. I enjoy hand washing my vehicles though so no issue for me there.

Black! All day, everyday!! 90% of my cars were black. Only other color I can do is white. The Trx does show the dirt pretty good, but when she’s clean (I do hand wash only at places or have them come to my house) it’s the best looking truck out there stock. I limo Tint the sides and 30% on front which makes it look that much better. I had an S63 that was very very dark grey(a stock color from Mercedes’), ALMOST black and I hated it. Don’t get me wrong, it looked fricken great washed up, but it just wasn’t black and it got just as dirty and looked worse when dirty than a black car imo. Goodluck!

I have black and added graphine coating myself. It is hands down the best I have ever used. My truck is a daily driver and all i do is power wash it, no scrubbing or soap used. Very easy to apply also, best thing since sliced bread. You also coat all plastic and windows
Do tell (or link) to this magical product. I’m definitely interested. Had black on my ‘11 and it was gorgeous when clean for those 15 mins

I don’t regret it but I’m identifying the challenges of the clear coat Stellantis is using being diaper soft and wanting to scratch just by looking at it weird

I pinstriped mine up pretty good, working on getting scratches out but the branches appear to have just cut through the clear like nothing in some spots

Is anyone taking their TRX through an automated wash anyway? Wouldn’t think that they would fit. I figured I would be hand washing the truck anyway so the idea of Black paint didn’t bother me as much

I agree 100% with everything you said. My upcoming order is blue! I can help you with water spots, though. Get a de-ionizing system from CRspotless.com. I have the DIW-20 mounted to my deck. The DIC-20 is the same, just cart-mounted. Your choice. But it really does work. The water will. not. spot. I wash, let air dry, and it dries with no water spots. It was tough to believe until I used it. Now I'm never washing cars at home again without it.
