Anyone hard-wire their radar detector yet?

It was super simple. I ordered this hardwire kit for my radar from Amazon:

Escort Direct Wire Power Cord for... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0003NN83U?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I ran the wire along the headliner and down the door seal, tapping into a fuse in the fuse box under the steering wheel. The panel in front of the fuse box under the steering column is easily removed by two screws along the bottom side and pulling it off. As for the wire, I was able to tuck it into the headliner and under the door seal, routing it to the fuse box without and tools.

I tapped a fuse in the fuse box i found on the Ram 5th gen forum - people were talking about it being a fuse not in use for anything; not sure if that’s the case on our TRX but I used it nevertheless and found it to only receive power the ACC is on or the engine started.

below are pictures with a mark up of my routing, the panel removed under the steering column to gain access to the fuse box, and a picture (not mine) taken from the 5th gen forum of the fuse I used in the fuse box.

This was very helpful and ran my wire the same way, but mounted the V1G2 in the upper left corner of windshield to reduce its visibility. Still debating where to mount the concealed display, most likely will put it under the launch control; my strong preference is for a 'dark' display so attention is not drawn to the detector.

Very easy install due to the OPs directions. One comment - The 2nd smallest mirror tap connectors also work really well.

Any trick to removing the plastic covers behind the mirror? I usually end up damaging stuff prying it open.

Did you mount your concealed display yet? I've been debating where to put mine as well. I bought some moldable epoxy stuff and I'm going to try and make a small mount so the display sits on my steering column. From what I can tell, it's only going to block my odometer from my normal seating position, but that's no big deal.

FYI - BlendMount has a 15% military discount you can register for on their site through VerifyPass.
I know you posted this a year ago, but thanks for pointing out the military discount, saved me a few bucks I can now put towards Palisade Brewing👍

I know this has been a topic of discussion for some time, but what system is the majority running for their radar?

That's a pretty loaded question! Everybody has their own preferences for their own reasons, but the Uniden R7 or R8, Valentine ONE Gen 2, and the Escort Redline 360C are what most on this forum are using. I myself run the Valentine ONE Gen 2, custom mount, hardwired to fuse panel, and I pair it with the V1 Driver app on my iPhone(for GPS lockouts and AI learning). If I had an Android phone, I would use the JBV1 app instead of the V1 Driver app, as that is supposed to be the cat's meow.

Here is a good review on all the top choices out there:

Thanks. Yes, that question indeed was a broad one Lol. Looking into getting one mainly for daily driving. Normal to slightly higher speeds, but not for ripping and running while driving hahaha. I use an iPhone. I’ll definitely check out the link

No problem, I like that place. I saw a silver TRX the other day out on 18 road / N. Fruita desert. Was that you?

ESCORT REDLINE 360C back in stock for those who have been looking

Not me, got my WS 8 days ago, should be picking up my white rig over in Thorton before long.

One of the easiest radar detector installs I've ever done!

This is slick. The reason you were seeing longer lengths was that we were tapping behind the glasses holder. I need to put this back on my 22, so going to use your tap link to purchase. Thanks for the video.

So I installed this way, aside from that middle panel it was super easy.

I had to pull from the very top of the middle panel down and towards the mirror then it popped off. The way you had explained I thought I had to lift it up.

This is the way to do it and with that kit. Thanks!
