Figured I would post this so it’s documented for everyone to read. Sorry for the long post. Learn from my failures.
2022 Ram TRX with 77,000 miles. All maintenance done by me per the owners manual recommendations. Minus the oil, I do oils and filter changes at 5000 miles. To hell with the oil life counter.
1 December 2025 I was sitting in the truck in a parking lot at idle. Was at idle maybe 10 minutes if it matters. The truck started shaking and I could see smoke pouring out the back of the truck. I shut the truck down and called the local Stealership for help. The truck was towed to the stealer and I waited for them to get back to me. Two days later I got the call, they managed to get the truck running and it was knocking really bad. Suspected motor damage. I signed authorization for them to tear the motor down to find root cause of the failure. A week later I get another call. Number 7 injector failed causing a hydrolock and a subsequent bent rod. Needed a new engine. Great right, covered under the extended Warranty. Waited a couple weeks to get word back from the Warranty company so repairs could start. Surprise, A component that is not covered under warranty caused the damage to the covered components. Claim denied.
In the warranty it states that the factory installed supercharger and intake system are covered. In my point of view that contains the fuel injector. Maybe not the electrical leading up to them but the injectors should be covered.
Fun times. I went ahead and authorized the Stealership to start repairs so they could order me an engine. At the same time I had them start a claim with Ram Cares to help fund the repairs.
5 January 2026, word came back that Ram Cares was going to do a 50/50 split on the cost of repairs. Things are moving along, I’m good with paying 50 percent for now. Engine was ordered and came in a couple weeks later, pretty quick as far as I was concerned.
4 February I got a text from the Stealership asking for receipts for all my oil changes. They reopened this shit for some reason. No problem I do my own maintenance and get supplies thru my Advanced Auto account. Made some calls and a few hours later I emailed the Stealership a full transcript of all parts I’ve bought since I bought the truck in 2023. Problem solved, let’s get me back in my truck. Nope the split changed.
4 March, It’s now 70/30 split with me paying for most of a problem caused by Ram when this thing was built. Same thing with Ram Cares, the injector caused the damage so the truck is further out of warranty than they thought. To make things worst, they stopped working on the truck back in February when the case was reopened.
It is now 31 March and my truck is still at the Stealership. To add a bit to the pain. I have had a loaner car from the Stealership since December at $25 a day. I have grown to hate a Jeep, may have to sell my Wrangler. On the bright side, I was told today that my truck will be done this week. I’m not holding my breath.
At the advice of a random lawyer I have contacted the Attorney General in the area where I bought the truck and waged a complaint against the Stealership in that sold me the truck and the after market Warranty company. I have yet to obtain a lawyer to deal with the Stealership that has my truck. I figured I would wait until after I got the truck back and have them fix everything they did wrong during the repair.
So as far as the Stealership that has my truck. I shut the truck off as soon as I saw smoke and never tried to crank it again.there were no knocking or odd noises coming from the motor at that point. The damage to the motor was most certainly caused by their attempt to get the truck running. Smoke from the exhaust is caused by fuel, oil, or a blown head gasket. All of which are reasons screaming, do not attempt to start the truck. The delays for repairs was absolutely their fault, I authorized them to repair the truck at the very start and have the email to prove it. Upwards of $15,000 out of pocket to get my truck back after everything is settled. All because of a failed fuel injector and an incompetent Stealership. Oh, I also hate Maryland now.
Anything else that the community thinks I should be doing?
Dang sorry to hear about the truck being down and that it’s taken so long to resolve! Did they indicate what preventative maintenance can be done moving forward to insure the fuel injector doesn’t fail again?
