Had a shop tell me they were familiar with ZF transmission service and that the transmission filter should be replaced at my mileage.
A few things:
1. They told me that the filter was integrated into the pan (I have seen varying info on this, including molar part sites). Therefore, they replaced the pan.
2. The claim that the transmission only needs 5 quarts of fluid (and only used 5) .
3. They claim that they used a "scan" tool for refill procedure, including up to temp, and filled where the fluid comes out and then replace the cap.
Now there is a high whine on acceleration. My guess is that there is not enough fluid and the sound is the gears spinning when accelerating during fluid starvation.
I keep finding varying points online for fluid volumes, but nothing from an official source (some say 8.5 quart and other have it 9.5 dry fill).
My questions are:
How cooked is my trans if I have only 5 quarts in it? I only drove about 15 miles.
What is an "official" source stating the fluid volume amount? I can't find one online.
